Why are people surprised by this?
OEMs have been shitting all over their legacies for years now.
The new Mustang is an SUV. The new Charger is a sedan. The new Dart was an economy car. BMW M badge is just a body kit, along with Cadillac's V. Hell Hyundai's N branding carries more prestige these days. Ford's Lightning went from compact sport performance truck to electrified behemoth. Hardly anyone makes cars of any kind, much less sports cars.
The Mustang SUV is really weird for a number of reasons.
They still sell the fastback and convertible mustang coupe muscle cars
It's actually a good car and could have stood on its own without the Mustang name
It's electric and not at all what a Mustang is
This is it for me. Maybe they just ran out of names.
But then the whole concept of "sport SUV" is so oxymoronic it makes me wanna tear my hair out.
It's like those M3 hardtop verts that add 400lbs. of weight and complete disrupt any sort of weight balance. And then they sell one with a carbon fiber roof alongside it.
And now the new M5 is a 5k lb. hybrid!?
Ughhhhhhh I hate consumers.
I was not aware of that. That's really stupid.
At least ford still make an actual mustang, though they've done the same thing with the bronco/bronco sport
The Bronco is bad ass! The Sport is a tiny little fake SUV that doesn't deserve the Bronco name. At least the Mustang SUV is actually a pretty awesome car.
The Bronco I think is an overall excellent vehicle, although more akin to a Jeep than the original Bronco.
The original Bronco was more like the one they sell now than what it eventually became. You used to be able to take the top and doors off.
My only gripes with the actual bronco itself are in its configuration options. The sport feels like a body kit for the eacape to me.
Isn't that exactly what it is. Afaik the bronco is actually built on two separate platforms. One being the escape.
