I wanted to buy a Cybertruck (don't judge me, my kid loves it). We also love McDonald's.

I no longer want anything Tesla or even want to eat at McDonald's anymore.

Your kids love it because it looks like something they could have drawn themselves.

[-] jaschen@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

He told me that he loves it because it's unique and since he is also different from everyone else. That is why he loves it. Can't argue with that.

Why would you want to buy a vehicle just because your kid likes it?

[-] jaschen@lemm.ee 8 points 1 year ago

My life revolves around my kid. So ya. If it makes him happy to be in a car he loves and it fits the families needs, then why wouldn't I?

...because you're an adult who sees the bigger picture and don't have the lens of an 8 year old, but the focus of a man who's lived a few odd but hopefully even years?

[-] jaschen@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

I'm an adult that will do anything to make my kid happy. Maybe you don't understand that is the bigger picture.

Hotwheels is a thing.

I wanted a Ferrari growing up, dad had sense.

[-] jaschen@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

Well, not everyone can afford a Ferrari. I can afford a Cybertruck.

If my kid loved a Ferrari and I was in a position to buy it. Best believe I'm buying one.

Buy a real car, then weld some sheet metal panels to it. It will be 10x safer for your kid and they won't know the difference.

[-] jaschen@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

Step 1: Buy metal. Step 2: learn to weld. Step 3: nahhhh.

If he has to get a vehicle why not one his kid likes? What vehicle choice criteria do you find acceptable?

[-] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 year ago

Safety, efficiency, and price.

[-] SkyeStarfall@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Probably utility and price?

If my parents had bought a car I thought was cool back in the 90s it would have been Sgt. Slaughters Warthog from GI Joe or a Dodge Viper.

[-] jaschen@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

Duuuuuuuude if my dad bought a Viper, I would have diiiiiiiied.

[-] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 year ago

Because it's a fucking Cybertruck lol... In nearly any other situation, I would say you're right. Take the kid's choice into consideration, but then maybe ask if they have a second favorite car.

[-] jaschen@lemm.ee 0 points 1 year ago

His answer is no. I asked him why he loves it. He loves that it's different from anything on the road. Since he has a rare disorder, he feels that he is also different. He can relate to the car more. Can't argue with that.
