This article is about Germany rapidly increasing defence spending, and also the fact that they're considering conscription. I also found this interesting:

A recent YouGov poll showed that 79% of Germans still see Vladimir Putin as "very" or "quite" dangerous to European peace and security. Now 74% said the same for Donald Trump.

Thoughts?

the current leader of the Fantasy Premier League... is not a data analyst, a football insider or a computer scientist, but a 67-year-old woman who uses a pen and paper to choose her team each week

I guess the Turkish authorities didn't like the way that the BBC was reporting on the Turkish protests. They deported this reporter for "being a threat to public order".

Thoughts on the Turkish protests, and the response of the Turkish authorities?

I thought this was slightly funny.

Mark Zuckerberg is known these days for wearing t-shirts with Latin phrases on them, especially ones where he compares himself to Julius Caesar.

Bluesky made a shirt in the same style, but theirs says "a world without Caesars" in Latin.

European companies like Airbus, Dassault, and OVHcloud apparently want Europe to reduce its dependence on US tech companies.

I saw this on Reddit and thought it was interesting.

One in four Gen Zs have thought about quitting work over the last year, citing mental health as a key reason to go unemployed.

Is it good that the new Canadian PM is visiting Europe first?

Should Europe seek stronger ties with Canada?

I think the 3% target is intended for the next parliament though. The target he wants to hit in this parliament is 2.5% from 2027 onwards.

I guess raising defence spending makes sense so that the UK can better protect itself from threats like Russia.

I think I'd choose firing squad if I had the choice. Lethal injections and electrocutions can go wrong, and I think they sometimes do go wrong, causing a lot of pain and suffering. Firing squad should be a pretty quick death with less suffering.

I expect they'll create about five spin-off TV series, all shown on Amazon Prime

For me the most important reason to upgrade things is security updates. E.g. if you have an old smartphone it might not get security updates anymore.

Some people don't seem to care, but I get paranoid about hackers breaking into my phone in some way.

I guess it's because many young adults move far away from home to get jobs in cities.

In the past young adults probably would have stayed living near their family, so they could see them easily.

Ethernet is obviously better but running ethernet around your home can be a pain in the arse

People thought the first Trump presidency was a politically divided time, but maybe we're now entering an even more divided time, given that social media is now fragmenting along political lines, more prominently than it did before.

I don't think age makes people conservative, I think power makes people conservative. If you accumulate wealth and power then you may become conservative in order to protect your wealth from taxes.

Just as others in this thread have said, it's the "fuck you, I got mine" attitude.
