Hello comrades and welcome to the third improvement megathread of June! bonfire There is one more full week left to finish the month strong.

Some discussion ideas:

  • How was your week?
  • Do you have some plans or goals for next week?
  • Do you have any sober days or streaks?

Poster caption“The Red Army is bringing liberation to the oppressed of the whole world”.

This poster was issued in 1919 and it contains two emblems of the Soviet Union in use during that period.

The emblem of the hammer and plow (visible in the small red star at lower right) is the earliest Soviet emblem. It was first used in April 1918 as a badge for the Red Army. The hammer and sickle (visible on the flag) was officially recognized in July 1918 when the Congress of Soviets approved it as the state seal.

Not seen on this poster is the crest of the Soviet Union (a hammer and sickle, globe and two shafts of wheat with banners of the Soviet republics). The crest was approved in 1923.

Good luck with your goals! feral-hog

Back on the wagon after a relapse with, yet again, quitting vaping. 24 hours vape free. I also downloaded a habit tracker to keep up with that along with my sobriety from drinking, which I've been over a year now.

As long as I can keep my dad and his shittiness at arms length then I have no reason to want to vape.

Hi musicenjoyer, what kind of music are you enjoying?

Btw the bodyweight subreddit has a lot of resources, I sometimes do the minimalist routine palestine-strong

its been a while since ive posted in one of these threads (and on hexbear in general) and... whew what a time it has been not just for me but with the Everything

my goal this week is to pick back up on self-care and stop immediately going back to bed and subsequently bedrotting every time im in the house... maybe do a little cleaning, etc. ive fallen off the wagon but am trying to give myself some grace and work back up to sobriety, i'm in therapy so i have a lot of help in that corner.

I want to take a college course, but porky hasn’t given the next simon says on what he wants so I have no idea what to do.

All I know is I qualify for nothing and porky refuses to tell me the only thing and nothing else that he values after he says he doesn’t want programmers anymore.

How are people supposed to know what to do if porky refuses to tell the working class what he wants?

I'm officially one week free of weed! First of all, I want to say a big thank you to @moonlake@hexbear.net for this self improvement thread, which has been something I look forward to every week to track my progress. This has really been a great resource for me and the support has been great.

So a week ago today I threw out my weed, grinder, pipe, lighter, everything. Since then not being high has been very easy, to be honest. I've had a few moments where I thought it would be nice to smoke some weed, but never have I regretted throwing my stuff away. I feel like I have so much more free time now to write and read and draw and spend with my friend. When I was getting high, I would just count all of that time as void, as if it was time I was spending sleeping or commuting. I couldn't be productive at all, all I could do was eat loads and watch House MD.

Other than that, I worked out three times this week, went bouldering with a friend once, and ate pretty healthily all around. I've been at work 5 days this week, chasing that bag, getting money for myself to help my parents if I can. I've been writing my fantasy novel a bit, I'm up to 15,000 words with no intention of stopping and I'm finally figuring out some of the minutae of the plot and map. As of this week I have officially lost 5 whole kilograms which I'm very proud of. Overall I feel this was a very good week for me.

I'm officially sober enough (just shy of 3 months now) to where I even seriously talked to my therapist about possibly having a bit on occasion (I do genuinely miss the occasional drink) and while I still haven't done that I still feel like I might be at a point to where I could try

beyond that though I hit my weight cycling up goal so now it's back to fasting my way back down. Haven't started on that yet but I will in the next few days as I readjust off the weight gain diet

Stickied good luck.

We had some celebrating to do last week so I was getting in a lot more carbs than usual. I expected some transient weight gain despite stumbling my way into some really good calorie days. I was like "oh, I must be storing more water to go with the glycogen"

WRONG! It was explosive, chore-stopping diarrhea. I've probably lost a couple kilos in one fel swoop

My week was pretty cool. Many small victories. I beat the highest ascension in Spellrogue, a phenomenal slay the spire type game. Gym going amazingly. Today I met a guy practicing break dancing and he gave me some tips and showed me stuff for my handstands. I successfully cropped and hemmed a few button down shirts and they look fantastic and that hem line is straight as fuck. I started working on a very basic plushy using fabric from unused tapestries. Eventually I am envisioning a meow zedong plushy and other cute commie friends. And i have started reading The Brothers Karamazov.

[-] moonlake@hexbear.net 2 points 1 day ago

I haven't tried Spellrogue yet but I am a certified deckbuilding freak sicko-yes so it's on the list. What's your favourite deckbuilding game?

Btw recently I listened to a great Rev Left Radio episode on Dostoevsky, it was super interesting. I definitely want to read his books as soon as I build the discipline to read a 800 page novel

[-] Mog_Pharou@hexbear.net 2 points 1 day ago

Before I would have said Monster Train. Yet to play the second, but maybe i will soon. But now definitely spellrogue. The addition of dice into the mix, which i was initially skeptical of, is incredible.

Last week did an hour of cardio on thursday, I kind of fell off but if I go to sleep early tonight with lunch ready for tomorrow I should have time to get back to 15 minutes like I used to. Thinking of breaking it up with some dancing in the morning instead of biking since biking is getting boring.

Got my hands on training this week and a job fair I'm going to so whatever I can do to be more confident in my body is a must as I present myself to employers. I am annoyed I will have to get rid of my nail polish but I have some new polish I'm gonna put on afterwards so it's whatever. Having to mute myself to get hired is fr annoying but I need money.

Self Improvement

333 readers
3 users here now

A community which focusses on improving yourself. This can be in many different ways - from improving physical health or appearance, to improving mental health, creating better habits, overcoming addictions, etc.

While material circumstances beyond our control do govern much of our daily lives, people do have agency and choices to make, whether that is as "simple" as disciplining yourself to not doomscroll, to as complex as recreating yourself to have many different hobbies and habits.

This is not a place where all we do is talk about improving "productivity" (in a workplace context) and similar terms and harmful lifestyles like "grindset". Self-improvement here is intended to make you a generally better and happier person, as well as a better communist, and any other roles you may have in your life.

Rules and guidelines:

  1. Posts should be about self-improvement. This is obviously a wide category, and can range from advice, to finding resources, to self-posts about needing to improve in a certain area, or how you have improved, and many other things.

  1. Use content warnings when discussing difficult subjects.

  1. Do not make medical decisions solely because of a discussion you have had with any person here (e.g. whether to take or not take medications; diagnoses; etc.) as we do not vet people. All medical problems should be discussed with a real-life medical professional.

  1. Do not post harmful advice here. If this is seen, then please report it and we shall remove it. If you are unsure about whether it's precisely harmful advice or not but feel uneasy about it, please report it anyway.

  1. Do not insult other users and their lifestyles or their habits (unless they ask, I suppose). This is a place for self-improvement. Critique and discussion about a course of action is encouraged over shit-flinging. Don't talk down to people.
