That’s right, refuse this pollution for the senses to rob your time.

Die advertising, just die.

I hear ya, getting into it can be messy. And having a VM on the side is a good choice.

My current idea of a solid setup to manage long term:

*A main machine that has a bare-bones, lightweight Distro on it. Just the stuff you need to work + a VM program to run:

VM1: a copy of your main OS, test stuff out here first if you think it’s risky.

VM2: big tech corp spy software IF you need it. (Keep that sucker offline)

(And make backups/snapshots of your installation every once in a while).

If you have it: second machine: this one is for degoogling ect, save your social media stuff here before you take it out back.

If you have it: 3rd machine to run as a personal server (working on that myself)

This can all be old gear. In the process of getting to know Linux better and better (which is an ongoing process for all of us) you’ll get more and more fluent.

You got this! Don’t give up!

Have you considered slowly transitioning to another account/service?

I’ve been going through my google account for almost a year now, taking my time to really deal with all that stuff so I can close it for good.

Last year they announced updating their policy to include data usage for AI purposes or something => deleted the next day.

It’s never gotten me a job, it doesn’t mean anything.

All it is is people posting their “look I’m an influencer now too” takes written in semi corporate speak. Boring, meaningless meanderings of self importance.

Congratulations!!!

I’m getting closer and closer to this goal myself.

Old t430 for mail and whatnot (read degoogling) It’s an absolute pleasure to have a machine that’s just to the point, no extra bs.

Oh right, even more companies promoting their competition.

There’s this meme from a while ago that observes the fact that the 80’s and early 90’s weren’t as colourful and flashy as most media make them out to be. In fact almost everything ranging from clothing to furniture to advertising was a drab shade ranging between dark brown to orange.

Every once in a while you’d get a toy or a household appliance that would be a bright neon colour and it would be considered hi tech advanced fancy stuff (until it broke the next day).

Nowadays you’d have to look hard for dark brown/orange drab stuff. They make dark brown/orange stuff but it usually is made of a veneer of fancy wood and it’ll cost you an arm and a leg. (And then it breaks the very next day)

Kinda reminds me of George Carlin on the illusion of choice.

Hey everyone,

Is there a Linux native program that can program Dali lighting systems? (Or perhaps even domotica more broadly?). The use case will be Qbus. But if I can get Dali going by itself that’ll be a good start too.

Thx in advance!

Being misunderstood (leminal.space)
submitted 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) by FreddiesLantern@leminal.space to c/adhd@lemmy.dbzer0.com

I’m not sure if this is an ADHD related thing so I want some feedback.

For the longest time whenever I try to communicate an idea, a process, a plan, a piece of information … I’m oftentimes either not taken serious or people misunderstand me.

I know for myself that I sometimes skip steps in my explanation because I feel they’re too obvious to bother explaining. But sometimes it’s ridiculous to the point where I feel like people are out to dismiss me not on the basis of the information I’m providing.

Does this resonate with anyone?

Edit: thanks for all the feedback! This has given me some material to work with.

Scenario in short:

I’m trying to install LineageOS onto a spare phone that I have (redmi note 8T) Hoping to get a daily driver out of it. The installation process requires me to install Android11 to install lineage on top of /over that. Which afaik isn’t directly available outside of some websites that I’ve never heard of.

For safety’s sake: would the install of lineage wipe the install of Android11? Or could there still remain backdoors?

Wait, the anger is a thing related to adhd?

I always felt like somewhat of a nutcase for getting pissed off at stuff not working/going my way (shout at the pc until you figure out how to get the driver working again).

Jogging/biking: get pissed, the burning anger gets you through.

In an odd way anger manages to focus me but it’s just not a healthy way to live :/

Edit/Disclaimer: I never said I shout at people.

Update 2: eventually I decided to just go with it and install MX instead as a final attempt(because I just happened to have that on a stick on my desk) and it worked. I have a functional machine again. Thx for all the input guys!

Update: reinstalling fedora, it’s extremely slow and it’s going beyond 100%. I fkd up didn’t I?

Another case of "normie wants to ditch W11 for Linux and got backed into a corner".

I have used Linux for a while about 20 years ago, however installing it on a modern machine is new to me.

Timeline/Data:

-Recent Dell XPS laptop

-Decrypted the SSD in W11 through shell

-Booted Fedora 42 from a usb (everything works, yay!)

-Installed on the entire disc (as intended, byebye W11)

-Reboot=> Bios doesn't see the SSD anymore, a few reboots later I get a prompt to enter my "code" (not the typical bitlocker screen, I assume my Windows Pin?), before I even get the chance to select the damn prompt it's already gone. After which Bios reset itself to og settings (secure boot and whatnot)

-Bios still doesn't see the SSD.

-Fedora live does see the SSD.

What do I do now? Thx in advance!
