!DadForAMinute@lemmy.world is a great community. There's a bunch of lovely dads ready to advise you on cars, DIY or just give you a big hug. We don't all have a dad we can ask, and your dad may just not know how to help... but you have your lemmy dad!

Was looking around for different writing communities and found this one. The idea's simple, start a post with one sentence, then others build on it in the comments one sentence at a time. It's a fun community idea in my opinion, just needs more participants!

Community is !4chanFails@feddit.nl

Sidebar description is:

A community dedicated to documenting and debunking fallacious arguments and misleading claims found on 4chan. Whether it’s cherry-picked statistics, misleading comparisons, or outright fabrication, we shine a light on the worst logic the imageboard has to offer. Share screenshots, analyze arguments, and discuss where they go wrong. Whether it’s science denial, historical revisionism, or bad math, let’s break it down!

Could it be disproved with 5 seconds of research? Then it will fit in perfectly here!

Anyway I think it's criminally under-subscribed, so maybe check it out :)

Hey everyone!

I hope this post does not break the rules, last year I ran Lemmyvision a song contest on Lemmy, and I'm excited to announce that the second edition is now live!

For those not in the loop, here's how it works:

TL;DR

  • From right now and until April 1st, discuss with your country’s community on Lemmy about which song to send to the contest.
  • Submit the song in this community by makign a new thread.
  • On April 2nd, voting will begin, where you will rank your favourite songs in a form. Any song not submitted by this date will not be featured.
  • On April 8th, results of everyone’s favourite songs will be published.
  • You can use !lemmyvision@jlai.lu for any question, this will be the community for updates and results, make sure to subscribe if you’d like to stay in the loop.

You can find all the information needed on this post : https://jlai.lu/post/15932635

Cheers!

Analog horror can be seen as a descendant of creepypasta and found footage films. It draws inspiration from earlier works like The Blair Witch Project and The Ring, which utilized similar themes of manipulated media and unsettling narratives. The genre gained traction with the success of Local 58, No Through Road, and Gemini Home Entertainment. It is characterized by its use of low-fidelity visuals, cryptic messages, and a nostalgic aesthetic reminiscent of late 20th-century television and analog media, often set between the 1960s and 1990s

I created this community as shrinkflation is getting really bad in Canada, especially in grocery stores.

This community is probably going to lean towards being Canada-centric, but shrinkflation posts from all over are welcome!

Shrinkflation is defined as a reduction in size or quality of a product, for a same or higher price for a given quantity.

From Wikipedia:

In economics, shrinkflation, also known as the grocery shrink ray, deflation, or package downsizing, is the process of items shrinking in size or quantity, or even sometimes reformulating or reducing quality, while their prices remain the same or increase. The word is a portmanteau of the words shrink and inflation.

[...]

Shrinkflation allows companies to increase their operating margin and profitability by reducing costs whilst maintaining sales volume, and is often used as an alternative to raising prices in line with inflation. Consumer protection groups are critical of the practice.

Shrinkflation is a rise in the general price level of goods per unit of weight or volume, brought about by a reduction in the weight or size of the item sold. The price for one piece of the packaged product remains the same or could even be raised. This sometimes does not affect inflation measures such as the consumer price index or Retail Price Index, i.e. it might not increase in the cost of a basket of retail goods and services, but many indicators of price levels and thus inflation are linked to units of volume or weight of products, so that shrinkflation also affects the statistically represented inflation figures.

Was browsing about as one does and found this community with a bunch of links to this type of music I hadn't known about before. Listened to a couple of the songs and I really enjoyed it!

It's !truecitypop@lemm.ee, or alternate links depending on where you're finding this from:

https://lemmy.ca/c/truecitypop@lemm.ee
https://lemmy.world/c/truecitypop@lemm.ee

And a plaintext:

!truecitypop

And direct link without the markabout to copy into your instance search to sub to it if so inclined:

It's now under new moderation, and we should be more active moving forward. Since a lot of the community recommendation spaces aren't as active anymore, hopefully this space can get things going again.

Come share your communities, from whatever platform you are using!

I came up with the idea for this community in the shower. What if I want to watch a movie with people from all over the world, and talk about it in a live thread? Live threads for sporting events and TV shows are pretty common, but I don't think I've seen it applied to movies before. The concepts are simple:

  1. Create an announcement post 2-12 hours before you want to host a watch party. This gives people time to find a copy of the movie, if they're interested in participating. If you have the means, you can also mention that you'll be streaming the movie on the official Discord server for those that don't have access to the movie.

  2. Create the live thread 30-60 minutes before the watch party starts. If you're going to be streaming on Discord, be sure to include the link to the server invite as well for anyone that wants to join in at the last minute.

  3. At the designated time, everyone presses play, and discusses the movie in the live thread.
