Hey if israel retaliates after it would mean israel attacked a NATO country

[-] rockSlayer@lemmy.world 54 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Not if Turkiye attacks first. NATO is only a mutual defense pact, it doesn't back first strikes

Edit: I felt like I need to point out that this is what's on paper. That hasn't always been the case historically.

[-] trolololol@lemmy.world 8 points 4 months ago

I'm sure Israel would never attack first and never launch a retaliatory strike that is not proportional.

On the other hand I would remind Turkish citizens to not litter the streets of Israel or risk Turkey being bombed.

[-] bobs_monkey@lemm.ee 2 points 4 months ago

It's a bit risky, geopolitical situations and all

[-] JimmyBigSausage@lemm.ee 29 points 4 months ago

Maybe Syria, Iran, and India could join in? What fun! Ireland could bring the snacks

[-] ObamaBinLaden@lemmy.world 5 points 4 months ago

India is an Israel ally, unfortunately. They love to trade weaponry with each other among other things like that spyware the government sneaked into everyone's phone.

[-] bobs_monkey@lemm.ee 1 points 4 months ago

2026 is right around the corner, let's just hurry up to make it canon

[-] KillingAndKindess@lemmy.blahaj.zone 45 points 4 months ago

Obviously any and all outside support for either is completely due to complex and additional ulterior motives.... but even knowing that, I'm sick of my taxes being used like they are and I find myself in agreement with this fucker....

What moment did we stray from a reasonable timeline

[-] WhatAmLemmy@lemmy.world 25 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

It was never a reasonable timeline. Modern history is essentially the present population waking up to the crimes of past (and present) generations, including their direct ancestors.

Israel was created by colonial states committing colonial-minded crimes, during the near-total collapse of colonialism immediately following WW2. England had assumed control of "Mandatory Palestine" after the Ottoman Empire fell with WW1. Through the League of Nations — dominated by colonial powers, like the UN is to this day — they essentially annexed land they had no legitimate ownership of, denying the population of Palestine their basic human rights to democracy and self determination, and gifted it to millions of refugees who were not even born in that location, and held no reasonable claim to that land (beyond ancestry from hundreds/thousands of years ago, that never made up more than a minority of the people who lived there).

It would make more sense, and be more logically and legally justifiable, to give the USA, Canada, and Australia to their indigenous populations in 2024 — who 100% owned those lands up until the last few hundred years — than to give Palestine to the Jewish population in 1946.

Similar crimes happened in South East Asia and Africa post-WW2. For example France trying to militarily reclaim Laos and Vietnam (backed by the USA). Both the Vietnam war and Cambodian genocide may have never occurred if those countries were allowed to implement legitimate democracy.

Totally with you here.

How did I end up on a timeline where I am vibing with Erdogan.

[-] mortalglowworm@reddthat.com 38 points 4 months ago

For clarity, he says:

Just like we entered Karabakh, just like we entered Libya, we might do similar to them.

Türkiye didn't "enter" into either of those countries with its own troops. Rather they used Syrian mercs, and provided technical support, including "selling" their drones.

I don't think what he means is sending in troops in this situation as well. Türkiye (or rather, maybe, Erdoğan's ruling party) has existing strong ties with both Hamas and Hezbollah.

So my assumption on how this translates would be arms shipments to Lebanon. I don't think they can get anything in to Gaza. And I don't think either Lebanon or Palestine would welcome Syrian mercenaries.

But let's see.

[-] ProdigalFrog@slrpnk.net 23 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

The same Turkey that continues to attack and slaughter the Kurds of Rojava unprompted? That Turkey?

Bit hypocritical, eh?

[-] DAMunzy@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 4 months ago

Based Erdogran? Nah, he's just playing international poker and making waves.

[-] Linkerbaan@lemmy.world 10 points 4 months ago

Sounds based but likely not more than empty words.

Though he did put a nice boycott on israel after a few months of Genocide.

[-] clearedtoland@lemmy.world 7 points 4 months ago

Have to bump it up a notch. The ongoing war headlines were getting kind of stale.

[-] mlg@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

The Palestinian resistance groups have been saying very clearly that they welcome support like how Hezbollah, Yemen, Iran, and the Iraqi groups have been providing. But that they do not want other nations sending in troops. That they will be seen as an occupying force and will be treated as one. Though I might be conflating them entering Gaza and West Bank. So maybe the other areas that are "Israel" based on the 1968 maps? Seems like another chance for them to make a stop into PKK areas on the way?

[-] Don_Dickle@lemmy.world -3 points 4 months ago

Not to be a clit...but why don;t they take in the Palestinians to begin with?

[-] fif-t@fedia.io 43 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Because of the lack of right of return.
That, and once Turkey accepts them, then what? It's a net negative for Turkey. More refugee mouths to feed that they can't patriate as citizens. And ones that can't return to where they're from.

I'm saying this as a Palestinian who grew up outside of Palestine, none of us have any right of return. That goes for all who leave now too.

[-] Don_Dickle@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

Holy shit you mind I do a I do a request on https://lemmy.world/c/amarequests to ask you a bunch of questions if you are okay with it?

[-] fif-t@fedia.io 36 points 4 months ago

I think I'll pass for now.

I'm exhausted enough having to explain things to my friends and educate them, combatting western media narratives in real time, let alone strangers on the internet.

[-] Don_Dickle@lemmy.world 9 points 4 months ago

When ever you are ready. I always leave questions for people to answer. But whenever you are ready I have so many questions besides the small amount I posted. Also thank you just for being awesome......no sarcasm.

[-] MrVilliam@lemmy.world 9 points 4 months ago

Not trying to push you into doing anything you aren't comfortable with, but a lot of people could really benefit from having a real source get info on this from. I know it's not your responsibility to educate us, nor are your opinions necessarily representative of everybody in Palestine, but most people just believe whatever they see on mainstream media. And generally, that means bullshit like fox news way more than Al Jazeera or BBC or NPR or whoever has the least biased news these days.

If nothing else, please keep educating your friends and anybody else in personal circles. If enough people do that, the info will hopefully trickle out to enough of the rest of us to generate outrage in order to influence real change in terms of support for Palestine. Cheers.

Hi there! Looks like you linked to a Lemmy community using a URL instead of its name, which doesn't work well for people on different instances. Try fixing it like this: !amarequests@lemmy.world

You mean assist with Israel's ethnic cleansing?

[-] Crikeste@lemm.ee 24 points 4 months ago

Because Palestine is their home.

[-] Tovervlag@feddit.nl 7 points 4 months ago

They would only do that if they got money in return. They would be in camps as well.

[-] Don_Dickle@lemmy.world -1 points 4 months ago

Then why does the middle east care about them? I am 40 years old and in my life have never seen or heard of a country that would accept them.

[-] alvvayson@lemmy.dbzer0.com 21 points 4 months ago

Why doesn't the USA or Europe just accept the Jews and let the Palestinians have the land?

Jordan especially has a ton of Palestinians. More than half of Palestinians already live outside of Palestine.

Your question actually boils down to, why don't they take all the Palestinians so Israel can have the land?

And the answer is: they don't want to be complicit in ethnic cleansing.

[-] Petter1@lemm.ee -1 points 4 months ago

The thing is, that the generation of people grown up in Isreal are now home there too, even if their parents moved there unjustified..

I think it is not that USA and EU are not accepting jews.

I just wish that someday all people realise how dumb religions are and that we should just be nice to each other

[-] MossyFeathers@pawb.social 5 points 4 months ago

I think it's 90% performative and 10% "we want to do something but don't have the resources". I imagine Palestine is a really hot topic among Muslim-majority countries, and as such ignoring Palestine would be a bit like if the US suddenly stopped ~~pretending to care~~ caring about Freedom^TM^.

[-] jordanlund@lemmy.world 7 points 4 months ago

Turkey does not have a good track record supporting oppressed minorities:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kurds_in_Turkey

[-] Irremarkable@fedia.io 8 points 4 months ago

Don't forget the Armenians

[-] herrvogel@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

It'd be political suicide. A very justified one, I might add. Turkey has already taken on WAAAY too many refugees over the last years, and the consequences have become pretty bad. It's a hot topic right now. Even his supporters are sick of his immigration policies, which he's been using as a way to import voters by fast tracking them to full citizenship.

[-] idegenszavak@sh.itjust.works 2 points 4 months ago

Last time someone took in a lot of Palestinians en masse resulted in a civil war: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_September

It's more complex than that, but usually that's why a lot of countries don't want to help that way.

[-] Don_Dickle@lemmy.world 0 points 4 months ago

LMAO I am currently reading the book about them and the wiki page. Have not finished yet but will tell you when I finish both.
