Mlem 1.3.1 is now available. This update adds compatibility for Lemmy v19.4, resolving an issue where marking posts read on instances running that version would trigger an "unknown" error.

This update has been rolled out to both the TestFlight and App Store environments.

Cheers,

The Mlem Group

Comment Colors? (peachpie.theatl.social)

I’m coming back to Mlem after being away from it for some time. I swear there was a setting to change the colors of the little vertical bars beside comments, but I can’t seem to find it. Was this setting removed, or am I remembering wrong?

Not sure I can explain this well, but I just saw a reply to a comment of mine in the inbox. When I click on it, it shows the reply to my comment, but if I scroll up, my comment is shown as a reply to a totally different comment to the one I originally replied to.

If I click to ‘view all’ button in the inbox, I can find my comment, and the reply that was in my inbox, and they’re all ‘threaded’ correctly.

Let me know if I can provide links / screenshots to try to share what’s happening.

Edit: when viewing the thread from the inbox, I also see lots of ‘More replies…’ buttons that don’t do anything.

Not sure what happened here, but when I went to edit my comment in that other post, it opened like this and (a) only showed the first line, and (b) wouldn’t let me tap in to edit. Locking and unlocking the phone got the full comment back and I was able to edit, but still tapping to move the caret was broken.

Hope that makes sense :)

For a while now I’ve had a bit of difficulty collapsing image comments. It takes like 5+ attempts to get it with me frequently doing other things like upvoting or sliding the comment, but most commonly opening the image. I use an iPhone 11 which is pretty old now so maybe it’s more of an edge case, but I think my problem would be solved if there was an option to like double the width of the line in the settings.

First of all, I’m loving the new clean experience with images. But it has thrown up an issue with videos in that the overlays are actually quite important there (play, pause, mute, scrub, etc). So, could those be separate settings for different kinds of media?

One other thing I miss from Apollo days is ’drag to scrub’. If that were possible on Mlem, it would be fantastic.

Great iOS app! (lemmy.ml)

I’m loving your app so far. I tried a few different iOS apps for Lemmy and this one is by far my favourite. Well thought out design as well as a really nice look and feel and app icon choices.

I have, quite literally, seen this post 9 times now. Is there a way to automatically hide the remaining 8 once I’ve marked one of them as ‘read’? I have ‘mark read on scroll’ set, so it would need to be something dynamic rather than on refresh, and I know that can cause scroll position issues. But tbh I’d like to learn to live with that rather than see the same stuff constantly.

Just noticed a weird rendering issue when switching apps. Viewing a comment with a code block looks fine, until switching away and then back to Mlem. Heres what it ends up looking like.

Really liking the new image settings such as not showing the controls by default. But they kept appearing for me and I couldn’t work out why until just now.

Open an image, zoom in, then pan a small amount. Looks like a small drag is interpreted as a tap, and the controls alternately show / hide.

I’d happily turn the overlay off completely if that was an option; I can’t remember the last time I actually needed them—the close icon isn’t needed with the swipe to dismiss, and you can easily get to save / share by long press after closing. Since I use those so rarely, that would be better UX for me.

Another visual glitch I just noticed on my new phone that I never saw before. Collapsing comments appear to go ‘through’ the post above.

I captured a screen recording but can’t seem to attach it here…

Edit: had reduced motion set on my old phone. It’s when motion is enabled.

Is this a new thing? I don’t recall seeing this before switching to a new phone, and don’t have my old one handy to check. It’s in the main posts view and shows the image format on every image post. Couldn’t find a setting for that…

I installed to a new iPhone from iCloud backup. Mlem came over fine and had both my accounts in there, but neither worked properly. I could browse ‘All’ but saw error toasts and no subscriptions etc.

I logged out and back in with 1 account and that one (this) is working fine now.

This might be expected behaviour but it was a bit confusing and no meaningful errors were displayed. In case this is unexpected, I’ve left my other account in the kind of limbo so I can get error messages if that’s useful.

I often see this ‘more replies’ button, but it doesn’t do anything other than flicker slightly when tapped—like it was going to load something and then thought better of it…

Can a feature be added to respect the federation settings of votes when on Piefed? I have my votes set not to federate on Piefed, but Mlem on iOS federates votes, making my voting activity public on sites like Lemvotes.

Is there an option to display the display name next to a post? At current I am seeing the username instead, I would rather not see peoples social media “deadnames”.

I’m not sure if this is possible but would like to ask if you could make an option to turn off notifications per comment.

Sometimes you comment, comment and then for some reason it is just over, right? But the other person (or several people) keep going on and on. So would like to disable the notification just for that particular comment to stop seeing all these messages.
