At the graduation for Columbia College, the university’s main undergraduate school, some students repeatedly interrupted Ms. Shipman’s remarks with loud jeers. At one point, they chanted “Free Mahmoud.”"

Good for them. This cowardly administration crushed free speech on campus for years and then rolled over for Trump and got absolutely nothing in return. They didn’t even get their grant money back after surrendering to Trump.

Yeah and don't get me wrong here this isn't a good excuse and didn't really change anything but I think the main motivation is trying to not be a Kent State because now Kent State is really really well known for one thing especially and it's not exactly great pr.
