I'm pretty sure you're stuck with Garmin (or AsteroidOS but this isn't really an option) when it comes to smartwatch on degoogled Android phones.

In most Web3 blockchains ZeroKnowledgeProof aren't proof. They often only have the succinctness of the proof and this is enough for the marketing team.

Also there is many things valuable in modern cryptography thanks to Bitcoin and other chains, blockchain and crypto are buzzwords for sure but that doesn't mean that i's 100% BS.

Open Source is a way to create but is not limited to only software but many different things. LLMs are software. Most open source LLMs are using Open washing to label themselves as Open Source, however it is not. The importance in Open Source is being able to study how it was made and most of open models have closed training data-sets and training method. Apertus is trully open in the sense that they published Open Data and full training details.

You have the right to be bother by "AI" but let Open Source enthousiasts being... well, enthousiasts when in a field of Open Washing someone created something trully Open Source to the point of sharing it in an Open Source community on a FOSS plateform.

Edit : Minor corrections

It really depend on your threat model, Proton Pass is fine. Of course a self-hosted or local solution will be more privacy friendly but at the cost of being responsable for security and good backups (3,2 1 rule).

There is no black or white regarding privacy. You want to ask yourself what you want to protect from and is the investment worth being sovereign ?

Just install GrapheneOS on your device and AI is pretty much gone

If you wan't to use FOSS I get it, I want to. But when it comes to professionnal workflow you sometimes have to put your ego on the side. When I tried to ditch the Adobe Suite, the Free(dom) alternatives didn't worked for me or the proprietary alternatives were simply better.

Inkscape is great but Affinity Designer is superior in many regards and even it is inferior to Adobe Illustrator. GIMP and Krita are awesome tools, honestly GIMP3 makes me want to play more with it and Krita is an awesome digital painting software, one of the best out there. But for photo editing Affinity Photo is still better for my workflow even if I still prefer to use Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom.

The new redesign of Scribus in unstable is exciting but I don't see myself using it for professionnal work. Affinity Publisher is just better and yes again Adobe InDesign is still superior.

I've almost fully ditched Adobe (with the exception of Photoshop), I often try Free and Open Source alternatives and while some are good enough none can compare to Adobe who is leading the industry by the way, that's the sad truth as of today.

Here is a list of alternative to Adobe I've made : https://alternativeto.net/lists/25812/softwares-for-content-creators-that-don-t-want-to-supports-adobe-monopole-/

Edit : grammar and typos

I agree on this with the exception of PIA.

  • Marketing is BS like most VPN
  • Company is based in the USA
  • They do analytics
  • You cannot register "anonymously"

It's not the worst VPN you could choose but there is better options.

Especially geolocation data...

Tuta is a great german alternative with e-mail and calendar. For Drive there is many options but I don't feel recommanding one now For VPN there is Mullvad, IVPN and NymVPN(beta) For Password Manager there is BitWarden or any popular KeePass clients but sync is mainly on you. For Documents there is CryptPad

I tried to make a list on AlternativeTo that has all the apps you ever needs. I tried to avoid services and stick with apps, however there is a few services like Cloud-sync Notes, Password manager, E-mail aliases and a few others. I tried to stick with Free (as in free beer) Apps and when there is great options Free (as in Freedom) and open source.

Do you have any recommandations so I can improve that list without bloating it too much ?

I don't use Google account on most of my devices. I have an older phone on LineageOS 22.1 that I use mainly to test apps. It has GApps installed but I never sign in. I have faced a couple apps that on startup are launching the PlayStore app and ask me to sign in, I guess for "security". Is there a way to bypass that ? I don't want to link my Google profile and would love to use this app offline like I should.

Is this something that could be done with LuckyPatcher ? Is there easier methods ?

I have been using ChimeraOS on my living room PC and it has worked well most of the time without issues. Recently I had audio stuttering on a new game and fixed it by using an older Proton build. But then I started a game that I have played many hours on this machine without any issue and suddenly had audio stuttering again on this title that previously had no audio issue with. Then I realized it is a problem with most of my library... This is really annoying for some title.

Anyone experienced something similar recently ? I have updated ChimeraOS twice since and updated the Proton Experimental build etc... Don't know if it is related to Proton, to a driver, to Chimera... How could I debug this ?

I think you confuse security and privacy. Samsung are pretty secure from what I saw. They are not private at all however. You can debloat it with adb and maybe tools such as Universal Android Debloater.

There is a couple of guide such as this one: https://linustechtips.com/topic/1402380-ultimate-samsung-oneui-debloat-privacy-customization-guide/

Would like to see open source client such as Infinity, Stealth, RedReader, etc... going to lemmy.

The best case scenario would be all reddit client including Apollo, Boost, etc... supporting the transition to lemmy but this is quite unlikely unfortunately...

SimpleMobileTools are making simple yet great open source android apps. No ads, no trackers, cheap price or even free. I personnaly love Simple Gallery Pro and have a lot of respect for the devs, I would like to donate since they accept cryptos... unfortunately only BTC, ETH and LTC. Let them heard of the benefits of Monero so I (and maybe you) could donate to them for their work !

I recently discover NowPayments which looks like a cool services but does not suit well with a Monero mindset. I understand that it will have some compromises for using a service like that no matter how serious the ones running it are. I was just wondering if their was a simple way for a commerce to be paid in euro/dollar or whatever currency is prefered and that the customer uses XMR without comprimising any information on his/her side.

Often people tend to say due to the lack of funding open source apps have bad UI and also sometimes terrible UX. While it’s not entierly false I’ve found myself some beautifuly designed apps and wanted to share them here.
