Basically looking for people's experiences across multiple playthroughs in this game. Tell me all about the unexpected things you found, especially after more than two playthroughs.

I'm currently on my second run, close to the end. The first run I played Tav. I thought myself pretty thorough with map exploration, and by the time I finished I had a pretty good idea of which quests I had left unfinished and which characters I wanted to interact more/less/differently in my next run.

I wasn't expecting the game to feel this different though, and I'm loving it for it. So now on my second run I am playing Durge, I recruited Laezel and Minthara (previously I didn't...) and I made sure to find all pieces of Dribbles. I set myself to antagonize the Emperor in this run, unlike in my previous one. Oh and I made sure to keep the windmill gnome alive in the blighted village, since previously I accidentally pulled the wrong lever and yeeted him away, lol. I thought that was it, that would be most of the missing content I was interested in.

I... didn't expect to find so many different bits and pieces here and there or because of the order in which I did things. I realised I could recruit Scratch, an owlbear, and also an intellect devourer. I was surprised to see that entering the shadow cursed lands from the mountains as opposed to the grimforge would give me the opportunity to join the drider's caravan. Straight to moonrise, skipping the Inn. I rescued the prisoners and Minthara and was surprised, again, to see I could take them all, and myself and the party by boat to the Inn even if I hadn't yet been at the Inn.

I also realised I pretty much sucked exploring the map in Act 3; so many doors left unopened. For example I discovered there are mausoleums one can actually break into and explore in the graveyard. How come I missed that before, I don't understand. There is a mindflayer in the windmill in Rivington, and I should have taken the emperor's advice regarding it. In this run, my companions actually pointed at the shop Jaheira said would be the safe place, so I brought Jaheira with me and oh boy I discovered she actually has content exclusively for her. Her little questline was totally unexpected; previously I just let her tag along at camp but mostly ignored her. Discovering this as Durge I guess added extra flavor.

Etc. I could go on forever, but I want to hear what surprised you. Bring it on, maybe you can inspire me to try something different in my next run.

Been playing on and off for the last couple of years and when you finally think you've explored everything, more options arise.

Found a new lover and a new ending in the same place. IYKYK

Happy gaming!

I'm trying to make sure I don't miss any quests or items in BG3. Are there any good ways to track quests, hidden stuff, or collectibles? Any mods or tools that help with keeping track of everything? Would love to hear any tips from other completionists!

A while ago I've only played up to the end of Act 1 before I had to drop it for personal reasons, right now I'm waiting for it to install(forever) to check for myself, but insight from people who know better would be helpful :)

I remember there was an option to just play as any of the characters and make decisions through them, as well as to star the game from the characters in the campaign, without creating your own. so I'm thinking how possible would it be to start as any of the available characters, and from there just take turns over who plays which ones. I have 4 controllers so normal local is possible, but there's more than 4 of us so that wouldn't be ideal.

I barely know enough about the game, none of us are experienced really, I get this is a normie question 🥲

So I mistakingly thought the grove with the tiefling-goblin war was the main quest, because that's what the game kept talking about.

And I didn't see any way to continue the game outside of doing it, especially since the way North to do Wyll's quest to get Kalrath was blocked off by a broken bridge. I eventually learned I could jump it, but I honestly didn't think platforming was an option given that the game didn't seem to have platforming elements.

I got stuck in the Goblin Camp on a really tough fight, as due to the game pointing me in that direction I went there without gearing up or leveling my guys, so I was only level four.

Honestly the fights were fine except for the one against Dror Hazlin, who kept killing my guys in one hit and refusing to take damage no matter what I did.

I tried attacking him from the rafters, but he was only half-way down on his health by the time he had my guys cornered and proceeded to kill them all by knocking them off the rafters.

I eventually turned down the difficulty, but found the fight unsatsifying. So I reloaded and eventually figured I could shove Dror Ragzlin down a bit and miss out on his worm.

I chose that, because the shame of using Explorer Difficult was just too great.

So, you might be wondering "What's the problem? I found a solution"

Well I was talking to the Steam Message boards about it and they were overly toxic, accusing me of a being a troll, telling me how easy the fight was, giving non-answers like "Use Explosive Barrles" (I don't have any) or "Hire some ogres!" (There are none around)

and when I explained why their solutions were unviable I was told I was a ragebaiter.

I just kept getting told how easy the fight was and how I'm a terrible person for asking for help.

Eventually the forum post was deleted due to how out of hand it got.

It left me in too sour a mood, because I figured, what if they're right? What if I'm not gamer enough to properly enjoy Baldur's Gate 3.

So now I ask on Lemmy, should I continue, or uninstall in shame?

I really do like the game, I don't agree with every mechanic and I dislike how limited resoruces are, but I love the world and the story and would really like to see it through to the end.

If you think I should continue, then please, I ask any advice I can get for how to optimize enjoyment. Thank you.

I'm doing two simultaneous runs, a good Sorcadin run on Tactician and a dark urge, evil Berserker run in Honor Mode that follows along. The good party is basically acting as an advance team to remind me of the scary encounters, ambushes etc. but I've also never done an evil durge run so it's not exactly a 1:1 comparison.

The evil party is just shy of Act 2, but I'm playing with the only companions I have access to (because of my evil actions) and I'm roughly trying to play them on type. Astarion is a Gloomstalker Assassin, Lae'zel is an Eldritch Knight and Shadowheart is a Light Domain Cleric. We are cake walking at the moment, didn't really break a sweat through the Underdark and Monastery. I'm concerned at not having a true caster... But I'm also sort of intrigued at the viability of this party.

Counterspell is the big thing I'm worried about. The advance team is proccing it constantly. Also replacing Haste with potions would suck and I can't get the Haste bow (I assume, Dammon is dead). So far relying on cleric skills for AoE has been working okay.

Can I get away with using speed potions and maybe something clever like going full anti-magic and using Sussur blooms with some party tweaks?(edit: apparently that's not possible anymore, but still Silencing weapons etc.)

Or, should I bite the bullet and spec Minthara as something castery when I get her? If so, who do I replace?

Any suggestions welcome.
