Gentoo with a custom kernel made using the fantastic guidance from the wiki.

I replaced the tux boot logo with an IBM one, I used this guide to do that: https://linuxlink.timesys.com/docs/wiki/engineering/HOWTO_Use_a_custom_boot_logo (is not that hard)

Things that don't work yet:

  • Webcam microphone

Conclusion about Gentoo: Waiting for packages to compile is annoying. But the flexibility and the Gentoo wiki makes up for it. Also Gentoo now has binary packages so I don't have to wait for packages that I don't care about to compile.

Wanted to see if I could make it look a little more "modern".

  • OS: NixOS
  • WM: Hyprland
  • Bar. Waybar
  • Terminal: Kitty
  • Browser: Firefox with Sideberry, Adaptive Tab Bar Colour, and some basic userChrome.css to hide the native tab bar and the sidebar title
  • Colour Scheme: Catppuccin Mocha
  • Wallpaper: VDawg's submission to the Hyprland wallpaper contest
  • Dotfiles: Unavailable. I haven't migrated some configs to nix yet (most notably hyprland) and I don't manage them with git either. ~~also they're a mess.~~

Feel free to ask me how I did things, information is difficult to find sometimes, so I'm happy to help

My current Linux setup. I'm still waiting for Cosmic. I'm hyped. BSPWM is really comfy to use. It is the best starter tiling wm to me. Wallpaper.

One of my all-time favorite wallpaper finds (LINK: https://wallhaven.cc/w/g8xlxd). The Waybar and Hyprland window borders are color sampled directly from the wallpaper itself. The other color/icon/cursor/terminal themes are listed in the fastfetch output.

This is my first time trying both hyprland and wayland. My friends have been bugging me for quite some time about switching to wayland but I'm just to comfortable with my dwm setup. So far I really like hyprland though and I might actually keep using it

  1. WM?
    • hyprland \\ i'm just staying for the blur at this point
  2. distro?
    • ultramarine \\ aka the cooler fedora*(tm)*
  3. browser?
  4. wallpaper?
  5. wtf do you have open in the other librewolf window???
    • 4get.ca \\ proxy search engine that respects your privacy! BTW, will is very cool and i respect him a lot
  6. colorscheme?
    • N0tch2k \\ finding the origin of this is pretty messy, the most i got was a devianart profile and the original repo containing the colorscheme

NOTE: i rewrote the photon, firefox, discord and 4get themes i made for biscuit just for this lol

Just plain old XFCE with "off the rack" configuration. Just like how this background looks with the Kripton-GTK theme and Gruvbox-Plus-Dark Icons.

    • another note: if something looks off, then it's because i probably messed up markdown while typing this

Since I like FreeBSD so much on my server I installed it on my crappy unstable laptop as well. I only use it for browsing, editing notes and video conferencing when working from home, so I need no complex setup.

From top to bottom:

  • Output of fastfetch, an open neovim and my wallpaper switcher. The bar is eww.
  • A second workspace with Firefox and my notes.
  • My "logout window". Pressing a key combo will show this overlay with the option to close it or pick shutdown/reboot/logout.

Not pictured is fuzzel for running applications.

A few minor things still need to be done but nothing major will change.

  • colorscheme \\ biscuit
  • the quality of the image is bad!! \\ don't worry, i know! that's why i'm placing all three below YOUR bulletpoint! (blame imgur for the bad quality of these)
  • who made the wallpaper? \\ read the text in the screenshots! (i'm too lazy to retype it)
  • why did you type so much text inside the screenshots? \\ i like talking to myself!
  • why do you keep playing with the name of the colorschemes you use? \\ i have fallen to the hands of my as(th)ma

final stuff: thanks for reading

also, this is a crosspost from the OTHER unixporn (the lemmy.ml one) and yes, i didn't forget about you guys..

DSLinux was a port of the Linux kernel and some basic software to the Nintendo DS. As you can see, it also works in Delta.

I am extremely pleased with how it looks. Initially, I was quite concerned about achieving a similar appearance and after two unsuccessful attempts, I felt defeated and abandoned the effort. However, thanks to the helpful individuals in the Matrix chat who assured me that achieving the desired look with Waybar was indeed possible, I decided to give it another shot, initially to prove them wrong. To my surprise, I was met with significant progress. While there are still some finishing touches and refactoring to be done, I plan to address these gradually as time permits. Currently, it is functioning perfectly and is user-friendly.
