Hopefully this is an indication of the build quality of the 8 as well. People who upgrade every year or every other year produce so much waste.

And hopefully Google also plays nice in terms of repairability and availability of replacement parts, otherwise 7 years of software support won't mean much.

Well with the spare parts available in ifixit I can't complain. Last year I got the battery replacement kit for my previous Pixel 4 from the ifixit European store and all went good, quick and affordable.

It's a shame the P4 doesn't receive more official updates though.

The way it's worded is a little ambiguous - it could mean 3 years (or whatever) of OS updates but 7 years of security updates. Which would still be good, but not quite as good as 7 years of OS updates.
