You don't need to ever interact with Galaxy to play your games, not even to download the offline installer. And the download option is not hidden on the website.

Are the 5e apologists in the room with us?

No, but seriously, most people I know (rightfully) criticize 5e for a lot of things, from sloppy writing in general, to shitty adventure books, to nonsensical rulings and poor balance. I've never met someone willing to defend 5e so passionately.

I've always claimed that base 5e is basically unplayable past tier 2 because of how wild power scaling becomes, and how sloppy certain rules are (God forbid that your wizard doesn't attempt to Shapeshift the Fighter's Echo before you even reach tier 3). And frankly, base 5e is too boring to play for long, anyway. Homebrew is where it's at.

This happened to me once, in reverse. A mailman had my same surname and was from the same town as my father.

He really was interested in finding out if we were somehow related, but I was, like, "buddy, I worked night shift, please, let me sleep".

He was a bit disappointed in my reaction, and I still think about it. I don't know where you are now, random maybe-distantly-related mail buddy, but I want you to know that I'm sorry and I wish you the best.

Apparently there was barely any change from the playtest version.

Key points:

  • Bastions are acquired at lv5.
  • Each player has their own bastion. Bastions can be grouped together into one bastion, but they are still treated as different bastions for the purpose of mechanics, except that grouped bastions can defend each other from attacks.
  • Bastions can be populated with "basic facilities" (whose only purpose is flavour, apparently) and "special facilities". The latter provide actual tangible benefits by issuing orders to them during the "bastion turn" (once every 7 days). Special facilities are acquired as the players level up: two at 5th and 9th level, and one more at 13th and 17th level.
  • Both types of facilities come in three sizes: "cramped" (4 squares), "roomy" (16 squares) and "vast" (36 squares), and can be upgraded later on. Some special facilities may have a minimum size requirement.
  • The article provides three examples of special facilities. I'm not going to copy-paste them (click the link, you cowards).
  • Project Sigil (WotC's own Virtual Tabletop) ad. Multiple ads, actually. My God stop talking about Sigil pls.
  • Attacks seem... Lackluster. "In the event of an attack on your Bastion, a number of d6s are rolled. For each die that rolls a 1, your Bastion loses that many Bastion Defenders. If you don’t have any Bastion Defenders or lose them all in an attack, a random special facility is shut down for your next Bastion turn." Bastions that are grouped together can sum up their defenders total.

From what I'm reading, there are very few changes from how it worked in the playtest. I guess they were either lazy, didn't have enough time to integrate feedback, or both. This thing only exists to sell Sigil.

Props to this person for never washing their mouth off their friend's blood. I'm sure they had the chance to do it, but chose to walk all over the hospital with their mouth covered in blood so that the nurse could see it, otherwise the joke wouldn't have landed.

The entire staff of one of gaming's most beloved publishers walked off the job in early September. Why?

As spotted by Windows Central, though, Jyamma CEO Jacky Greco later went into additional detail on Discord. Following a community manager's statement dismissing speculation the studio had been "paid by Sony", Greco shared his own frustrations relating to the delay. "You can ask Xbox why they haven't answered us for two months," he wrote. "Obviously they don't care about Enotria and they don't care about you... We've Xbox Series X/S version ready, but we can't proceed with submission and release, I spent a lot of money for porting and they decided to ignore us."

A similar statement also appeared on Enotria's X/Twitter feed. After a fan inquired about the "main challenge" holding up release, Jyamma wrote, "Communication with Xbox. The game works fine on Series S and X but we cannot go through the submission process and they can take even two months to reply to us."

Greco later shared a little more on the issue the studio had enountered, explaining it was unable to open Enotria's Xbox store page and submit the game - something Microsoft's support teams reportedly initially took responsibility for, before further communications were ignored. "We really want to release the game on Xbox ASAP," Jyamma added elsewhere, "but with lack of communication on their side it is a hard task indeed."

The suggestion seems to be things might be resolved pretty quickly if Jyamma could get a response from Microsoft, but in the meantime, Enotria: The Last Song will only be available for PlayStation 5 and PC when it launches on 19th September.

Respectfully, I believe this incident serves more as a learning opportunity for the admin team rather than a reason to amend the rules.

This isn’t the first time I’ve observed Rooki acting inappropriately for an admin of a community. As an admin of a (admittedly much smaller) corner of the internet, I’ve learned to interact with users in a way that is polite and ensures they feel safe and heard. This is at least the second instance where I’ve seen Rooki respond emotionally and rather adversarially towards users, which has, in my view, undermined their credibility, to the point that I hope to avoid future interactions with them.

I understand that managing LW, one of the largest and general-purpose instances, especially with Lemmy’s still rather limited moderation tools, is challenging, and I appreciate the hard work all of you, including Rooki, put into maintaining it and making it run as smoothly as it does. I'm NOT asking for their removal; however, considering that this is not the first time I’ve seen Rooki behave uncivilly and antagonistically towards users, I hope that this will be a formative experience for them.

(Edit for clarity)

This is exciting news for every aspiring game developer! Brackeys, a popular YouTuber who used to make in-depth and very user-friendly tutorials about Unity, is returning after a long hiatus, and will now create tutorials on Godot (for those who don't know, it's a FOSS game engine, but I'm pretty sure that, if you have an account here, you already know it).

Brackeys' tutorials were (and still are) the best tutorials for Unity, and have helped many aspiring devs (some of whom I know personally, and who later made a career out of it). His return, and the fact that he's now chosen to specialize on Godot, is a game-changer (pun intended) for the accessibility of the FOSS engine. Considering the recent Unity debacle, I'm happy that Brackeys will help people jump the ship, and I'm sure it will be instrumental in its success in the future.

If I sort a multicommunity by 'Hot', it will show all posts from community 1, then all posts by community 2, etc... kind of defying the purpose of a multicommunity at all. I solved it by sorting by 'New' instead, but I figured I'd mention it here because it took me a while to notice - I thought people were not making new posts at all, while in fact, it was just displaying all posts by a lowly populated community first.

I work in a hotel.

One day, a family comes to the reception to tell me that their window is broken, asking me to change their room. I ask if I can take a look.

It turns out, they didn't know the existence of tilt & turn windows and were scared that the window was going to fall down lol

Religion is ignorance and refusal to face reality.

As long as people behave, treat others, and vote according to the sacred scriptures written by a crackhead thousands of years ago, and their influence shapes the world around me and puts a limit to my freedom, then there will be no distinction between religion and extremism. The lesser of two evils is still evil.

[-] Aielman15@lemmy.world 105 points 8 months ago

Had a friend unironically trying to convince me that Palworld is evil because it brainwashes people into liking human enslavement and shooting at civilians.

His favourite game is Pokémon, a game where you bond with your fire lizard by pitting it against other animals in a government-sanctioned tournament.

Of course he's also one of those people who spends hours lamenting the state of current Pokémon games, while also buying both versions of each game at day 1.

I'm kind of used to devs releasing apologies for their games after a bad release and the following review bombing. It's almost guaranteed to happen for any modern AAA game, it's the sorry state of the industry. But now, we've reached a point where devs apologize for their games before they're even released. This shit is hilarious.

What's next? "We're going to release a game four years from now. You should temper your expectations, it's probably going to suck."

I mean, kudos to them for warning the potential customers, instead of lying to them or luring them in with nice trailers and trying to silence journalists by prohibiting them from showing game footage (I think I remember someone doing that...). Although I'm not sure how I should thank them. Should I buy the game because they were honest? Or should I not buy it, because, well, they were honest? I'm confused.

As for Game Pass and other subscription services, Whitten said that developers like Aggro Crab would not be on the hook, as the fees are charged to distributors, which in the Game Pass example would be Microsoft.

In which case, Microsoft and other distributors will not release Unity games on their subscription services. This will harm game developers either way.

Geez, the internet and the tech industry as a whole is collapsing. Twitter, Reddit, Unity... What the fuck is going on in the last few years?
