You can have it so long as it is semiautomatic. There's just a lot of paperwork involved because the bolter itself and each individual round are probably considered destructive devices.

I'm very surprised the top answer isn't pocketbook. Their entire business model is reworking Chinese e ink tablets to make them GDPR compliant and privacy respecting. I'd recommend the pocketbook verse pro if you want a lit screen and USB C, but they have a cheaper model without those features.

Here is a good spec comparison table for ereaders in general. I'd point out basically all e-readers have great battery life.

Hot take, but your local community matters infinitely more than the construction of your house. Build somewhere you have neighbors yoh get along with who will stick their neck out for you.

That being said, you can do the following:

  • Plant/build near large trees to cover from satellite/aerial photography

  • run conduit throughout so you don't have to rely on wireless networking

  • install security cameras that feed somewhere local (I'm assuming nobody who breaks into your house gives enough of a shit to fins and destroy your recordings)

  • buy actually good locks, doors, and doorframes. Make sure you're aware of what to expect from these, they wont actually keep someone out, they just make entrance louder and slightly more cumbersome.

  • build a secret sex room for you and your spouse. This is less of a privacy asset, and more just a fun thing to do.

Yes. Outreach is an important part of helping people change their minds.

It's the same reason you shouldn't fuck with Jehovah's Witnesses. By treating them badly, you increase the feeling of isolation they have towards broader society and shove them further into the clutches of the cult.

Reddit has an absolutely massive wealth of community knowledge. If you want to find a community for $thing or gain obscure knowledge on $thing, that's where you go (assuming there isn't an old forum post from before Reddit killed forums).

Twitter is where a lot of people still are. If you're the kind of person to care what a particular person says, that's where you probably want to be.

Instagram is used by young people who have friends on Instagram.

It isn't a great system, but it is the system that we have today. This is why legislation compelling Meta/Twitter/whothefuckever to act in an ethical manner is important. Social media is to some extent a natural oligopoly, and unless we get extremely, extremely lucky, the fediverse will always be a niche community.

You're forgetting the part where on her deathbed, she doesn't think about her husband she spent decades with, or her children, or her family at all. She thinks about a random homeless guy she fucked as a rebellious teen.

Absolute cinema.

Kroger and Safeway have been the absolute face of enshittification since the pandemic. They've also been accused of price fixing, and are trying to merge into a monopoly. They also regularly abuse disabled employees (at multiple stores in my area).

I have absolutely no doubt that they will do this the moment they think they can get away with it. In a fair economy, they would have been driven out of business years ago.

Average cost of college is under $150k/person. Warrant Buffet is worth $133,500,000,000 (rounded heavily). Warranty buffet could pay for approximately 890,000 people to go to college.

However given the fact that is most of a million people, and how much of a racket education in the US, I think the actual figure is much higher, because he could do several things to drastically reduce the overhead involved.

No reason they should exist in any day and age.

Companies do not pay per packet. Paying more for more bandwidth or lower latency kind of makes sense because theoretically they may be prioritizing your traffic when the network is under too much load. But sending 16 petabytes costs exactly the same as 1kb in a month, assuming your connection is fast enough to handle 16 petabytes in a month.

Google maps doesn't account for breaks. They're assuming you can walk at 3mph, and however much time you need to rest and eat is up to you.

Just like 1 day and 23 hours is only drive time. They're not accounting for the naps that you will definitely need.

No, antivirus in general is not a good idea these days. It is extremely invasive, consumes resources, and doesn't actually do much of anything.

Don't sideload random APKs off the web and you'll be fine.

Cars are a huge one. I know Lemmy is very radically against cars, but they are basically necessary for many (most?) Americans.

What is not necessary is the average price of a new car nearly doubling in 10 years. A $50k car should be a big luxury, not the fucking national average.

In order to afford a car that pricey, most people will have to severely compromise their savings, and/or get a loan that will last as long or longer than the car.
