Lowkey & Mai Khalil connect on powerful track “Letter to the 1%” | 18 October 2019 | Author Jack Lynch | @jack_lynch98
Lowkey has dropped a new instalment of music, and this time he has connected with songstress, Mai Khalil.
The hook is one which is delivered smoothly, as Mai delivers her flawless vocals with her tone adding the perfect layer over the boom-bap style beat. With the topic being one which shouldn’t be taken lightly in this one, Lowkey hits the instrumental with straight facts as he touches on a number of conscious issues which arguably don’t receive the coverage they do within the mainstream media.
The visuals, as in keeping with the lyrical offering, are empowering. We see a variation of different issues and struggles which the 1% of the population are facing in a number of shots which showcase the poverty which people are enduring. The visuals end with a clip of Lowkey reuniting with a student who has experienced his own struggles, as we see the artist express his surprise.
