Phenomenal. They chose the buggiest operating system for a spacecraft. Amazing.

Soon as you start thinking like they do its already over. I went down that path. It's a looooong road to get back out. Male lonliness epidemic is by and large self inflicted.

I don't understand, I think of them as lesser, judge them, get angry at them for not being like pornstars, and yet no one wants to date me!

Self reflection time for all of them.

Its always been a disaster.

Now it's simply more of a disaster!

oh no did your free investor money run out?

Companies only care when there is pressure. When I was laid off there was a woman literally in Africa at the moment of the layoff adopting a child, and she had just bought her home 2 weeks prior. Absolutely no notice, 2 weeks severance. Everyone rallied behind her, suddenly when we threatened to go to the press they "found" that they could afford to give her 6 months severance.

Fuck these executives. Absolutely no shame or morals.

This is where tech and business are fundamentally different. Us tech people are like "wow it will speed up work like translation so much! You can have it do the first run, so the overworked translators can simply be a double check and sanity, checking for nuances"

Suits though only see "let's lay them off" with no nuance

All modern science fiction TV shows and movies have been heavily influenced by the original Star Trek — except for the current batch of Star Trek shows,'” Weir said

Damn came out swinging. And... Th I agree with him. It's pretty clear krutzman threw out the guidebook for his shows and it is pretty clear in them. Personally, the only ones I've enjoyed are SNW and the third season of Picard, and Lower Decks is on my watch list. They just don't have the spark.

SNW has a great cast that I think all brought different energies that matched earlier trek shows. They encounter new things and phenomena which challenge them. Importantly too, not every episode is a "zomg the world is ending". It's real people making real decisions. I just don't like the other ones because it feels like "this action replaces the need for writing".

Same as title, looking for the essential hi-vis gear. I don't plan on riding at night but sometimes you're out a bit too late.

I was annoyed enough to write all of this up. I used to go regularly, and the rewards program was genuinely a good deal, and made it worth going to Starbucks. Now, even if I set aside all of the horrible things they're doing, I wanted to show just what an absolute shit program this is, and why there is absolutely no use in trying to "gain starbucks status".

I was hesitant for a long time, but I'm not using the Murena Fairphone 6 here in the states. I see a lot of people hesitant about it, will it work for X or Y, etc. Suprisingly there are very very few things that haven't worked for me, it's mostly a fork of LineageOS with microG.

Still, I wanted to open a forum for folks who are ready to leave Google thanks to them killing off installing your own apps, maybe my experience will help those who are questioning if they should or not

Recommended ROM for Samsung Tab S9? (poptalk.scrubbles.tech)

I've been dealing with it for a while, but they just force pushed a confusing mess of an update that added this horrid windowing system, leaving my SO and I both frustrated with it. I've flashed lineage a few times, anyone have a recommended ROM or alt for the Galaxy Tab S9 (sm-x710). Will unfortunately probably need gaps, or at least microg

Turns out the guy is a hypocrite, and has violated several laws himself harassing his victims with mocking images, and telling them to commit suicide (and worse). Louis is asking us to reinforce his complaints to the NY/CA bar. It's definitely worth a watch

I'm all for it, absolutely strike, but...

I think it's too late. The time to strike was years ago against the obvious bad decisions of upper management. Stock price is less than a dollar, the company IPs are worthless

Better late than never I guess

Oh my god that's amazing. Instructions on how to do what you're literally doing, dead internet theory is so correct. Instructions for robots by robots

Always remember what really happened with the McDonald's lady who sued because her "coffee was too hot".

McDonald's themselves started the campaign that the issue was laughable, and seeded the notion that it's ridiculous, how could she not know coffee hot?

What really happened was that the coffee was:

  • Served well above safe ranges to maximize profits, so the coffee could be served longer
  • Was served near boiling temperature
  • Was so hot that it FUSED HER LABIA requiring extensive surgery to repair.

She sued only for her hospital bills.

They started a smear campaign against her to convince the public that she was a moron and she just wanted a payday.

Don't trust corporations. Ever.

The fun thing with AI that companies are starting to realize is that there's no way to "program" AI, and I just love that. The only way to guide it is by retraining models (and LLMs will just always have stuff you don't like in them), or using more AI to say "Was that response okay?" which is imperfect.

And I am just loving the fallout.

I saw this earlier and I'm glad it was removed almost immediately.

Working retail/service in the US is a joke because people have become so entitled that they don't even think of service workers as humans anymore. When I used to work retail at a certain big blue box electronics store I was screamed at, yelled at, belittled, called names, and in a couple very extreme cases had items thrown at me and one person took a swing at me.

This is just another example of that. People here in the US are so detached from reality and laser focused on their routine that they literally cannot comprehend that workers may want to spend a holiday with their family too. Or worse than that, they think workers don't deserve to be at home with their families on a holiday, because they deserve service more than you deserve to see your family. God forbid they microwave a meal that one day.

It's pure entitlement and it's disgusting. Surprisingly I found that the lower income/societal class the person is the more entitled they would act towards me as a service worker.

This one dude has made this app for years and constantly updates it, fixes things, is responsive, and makes a great app. He's now been more loyal to his users longer than Reddit has, and I personally have used his app daily for 13 years.

Yeah, I'll happily pay for it.

FOSS is great but it doesn't pay the rent people, this guy is doing this mostly as his main gig. This isn't some huge corpo, it's one guy who makes his living building the app he loves. I'm sure he'd love to make it FOSS if he didn't have to pay bills on anything.
