Ok so he was skinny and then got fat, and then got skinny, but it was a lie?

So I guess my question is - why do people watch him?

I always do Ezells now when I crave chicken. Zero need to go to chick fil a in this town

That one in Bellevue that they'll wrap around the block and onto 405? And no one cares that they're just stopped on the freeway blocking lanes for fucking chicken?

if only there was some other way to transport and have 30 people be in one place at a time

Yeah wasn't marvel banned from using the army sometimes in phase 1 they were told they criticized it too much?

I have had good chicken tenders from restaurants, but never chains. Chains I don't understand why people get them. For the same price and better taste you can just go to the store, get some frozen ones and pick them in the air fryer. Heck season them a bit and I'd argue they're the same as any fast food ones

Hey, also former drive thru worker! Unless drive thru was pretty much empty it was almost always guaranteed to be a longer wait. Exact same experience as you, people took longer getting situated in their cars slowing everyone else down

And god help me how in the living hell do you wait for over 10 minutes in a freaking drive thru only to get to the menu and say "uhmmmm what do I waaaant....". Ffs it's a MCDONALDS. You're going to order the number 3 and a diet coke like you do all the time Sharon.

Oh dude, so many fuckin times I have people want to talk to me about chain fuckin restaurants. "Oh I hear we're getting an olive garden!" "Did you see the Texas Roadhouse just opened", oh can't wait!

Who gives a shit that yet another chain is opening. How empty is your life where an olive garden opening is something you're actually excited about? Go find a local Italian place that serves real Italian food. Find the local chicken place. Guaranteed it's about the same price as chains now, and the family running it will be much happier for your business than the suits in charge of the chain.

[-] scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.tech 8 points 10 hours ago

I will never understand how someone can justify waiting in their car for over 40 minutes for fried chicken. Not to mention the parking lot is empty! How do they not just think "I'll just park and go in"?

Seriously I don't even wait at nicer restaurants for an hour. I'll find something else.

[-] scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.tech 10 points 10 hours ago

Ha sorry, but I'm not surprised you had such difficulty walking. I also grew up in the Midwest where if you're walking people assume you must just be poor and can't afford to drive. Weird weird culture

[-] scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.tech 18 points 13 hours ago

But that's basically my point, is that they changed concerts from a casual affair to a once in a lifetime experience, where we have to choose our favorites we actually want to see, and can't go see people we only casually like.

And yeah I totally get the risk aspect, because at that cost in the back of my head was "is this worth it? Was it worth the price?"

[-] scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.tech 97 points 13 hours ago

I just saw an article about how ticket sales are slumping, and that people aren't willing to spend 600 per ticket anymore. The poor Ticketmaster CEO said that people just don't want to.

Yep my dude, can't be that you've changed concerts from "we should go see _______!" To "I guess it's the one time in my life I'll ever see them, I'll go one time and then never again" level of special occasion. Seriously 600 dollars per person is nearing Disney level vacation money.

So yeah, of course money isn't infinite. You hit the ceiling. Taylor and oasis may gather that much, but your other artists are going to suffer. I'll be honest I paid 600 for Taylor. It was a once in a lifetime experience. But now they want me to pay something like 400 for any random music act that comes to town. No, Ticketmaster, she was my favorite, that was a one time thing. I'm not paying 400 to see like, Weezer.

Private and public investment in clean energy rose to a total of $147B in the first half of this year — a record-setting figure.

Exactly two years ago today, President Joe Biden signed the Inflation Reduction Act, establishing a wide array of clean energy programs meant to supercharge spending on climate solutions.

Investment in clean energy projects — from solar manufacturing facilities to home batteries to hydrogen hubs — has taken off ever since, rising to record heights in the first half of this year.

Across the first six months of 2024, U.S. cleantech investment hit $147 billion, per new data from the Clean Investment Monitor, a joint project from Rhodium Group and the MIT Center for Energy and Environmental Policy Research. That’s a more than 30 percent jump from the first half of 2023. The report measures actual investment — not announcements or plans — from both public and private sources.

Length restriction on GPUs (poptalk.scrubbles.tech)

Hey folks! Not sure where to put this, but since I'm doing this to install Bazzite soon, why not.

I have a HTPC that currently has an NVidia card in it. Since Gamescope doesn't play nice with nvidia, I'm going to upgrade the GPU. I have a 6900XT in my primary rig, love the thing. here's the thing though, I was going to put it into my original HTPC, but it was too long by about 0.5 inches.

Does anyone have either A) a recommendation on a GPU that can drive a 4K tv that is shorter than 12" or B) Know of any good sites that have a filter?

It's a pretty intense machine, since the whole family uses it. I'm planning on about a grand for the new GPU, if it works like my 6900XT. Less is of course better, but I don't want this one struggling personally.

Thanks for any rec's!

Every day, we work to make our platform the best it can be, which includes regularly revisiting our terms and policies (also known as our House Rules) to make sure they meet the needs of our growing community and allow us to continue to support you. Today, we’re sharing a few updates that go into effect on September 15, 2024.

We’ve made some changes to our dispute resolution clause (section 11) for users in North and South America, with updates to our arbitration procedures for smaller matters and for coordinated or “mass” arbitrations (with 25 or more claimants). We have also updated the choice of law that’s applicable to the Terms. As before, the arbitration agreement includes a class action and jury waiver, which means we’ll be resolving most disputes in private, individual arbitration, and not in court. Please read this section carefully. We’ve added which entity acts as the merchant of record, depending on a buyer’s currency and location of your payment instrument.

So, if you're upset at all you can't sue, you can't go to the courts, you have to sit in a an arbitration with someone we choose who (trust us) won't be biased.

To add in, an annoyance for sure:

Effective July 29, our Adult Nudity and Sexual Content Policy introduces more rigorous guidelines regarding our prohibitions of nude or sexual content, as well as how to appropriately list certain mature content.

Pose picker extension? (poptalk.scrubbles.tech)

I think this was here a while ago, but I lost the post. If I remember, there was an extension where someone had built up a repository of poses, and then in the UI you could go through them and pick out the one you wanted for your image. Does anyone remember that? I have controlnet and can do poses, but finding them is a bear right now.

Gaming on Linux is great! (poptalk.scrubbles.tech)

I know, lame post, but I wanted to say that Linux gaming has gotten soooo much better, to the point that I honestly think my games are running better than on Windows. I've played so many games, but notable ones are Halo: MCC, MS Flight Sim 2020, Satisfactory, Mass Effect Legendary Edition, and right now I'm starting a full playthrough of Dragon Age.

Dragon Age is notorious even on Windows for being a pain because it's such an old game. You have to install the 4gb patch, and even then it's a bit rocky. Not on Linux though! I did have to install PhysX but I googled it and saw it was 2 buttons to install on Linux! Now it's been rock solid and stable, with no crashes.

Linux gaming may have a high bar to learn, but that bar is constantly getting lower! Exciting times!

I'm an ex incel myself, but I've been seeing a few users here exhibiting the tell tale signs. "I'm not attractive enough", "I don't socialize correctly", "I'll never find a woman" - all extremely unhealthy attitudes.

Personally I burned through many friendships and ruined a lot of chances with women because I was in the incel community. The community warped my view of women so much that I made it even harder to meet women, I became my own worst enemy. I lost friends because all I could think of was how horrible it was that they had girlfriends.

I have a friend who helped me out of it. She was the one who started calling out my bad behavior for what it was, and I started on the long uphill path out of it. I'm now married and stable for well over a decade, but I still think back to those days, and it depresses me seeing other people causing this themselves and not being aware of it.

So, Lemmy, for those who have clawed out of it, what's your story?

A decline in fossil fuel power is now ‘inevitable’, the report's authors say.
