The best example i can think of this is in the game barotrauma, someone once asked "why do you grief?" The question itself is best answered by Bartle's Multiplayer Psychology maxim. We all lean toward some aspects of basic multiplayer motivations: Socialites, Explorers, Achievers or Killers. If you don't have much 'killer' (defined as someone who gets their fun by causing a negative reaction in others) in you, then it's hard to understand that motivation. Of course, few griefers will admit to that need. No-one is 100% one motivation, but Our Explorers lean toward Engineer roles, our Socialites are Medics or Captains, while our Achievers and more balanced motivation players tend toward Captains and Security.

This is the only way I can understand killers/griefers, as I struggle to see the emotional reward in the action.

Let's say zero is straight up shutting your ears, going lalala and storming out of the room, let's say 10 is sitting down with a Nazi, genuinely making an effort to see things from their point of view just to see if you could.

Sure this may sound ridiculous but it's basic knowledge that studying your opponents viewpoints is the best way to counter them and get new insight yourself.

Me? Id like to think I'm a 6, I don't cut family ties over their political opinions but I'm very likely to shut that down with a "I don't want to speak politics with you"

Lemmy can be an echo chamber sometimes, but that doesn't mean everyone here is a mindless zombie, how do you all deal with others who believe differently? Can you back it up?

Long story short, I was trying to make some pork buns and it ended with the tip of my thumb being sliced off, after hospital visit and six stitches and back. But I'm kind of bored out of my mind. Can't do the steam deck. Can't do really anything with a controller. I have a large library of games, most of which I haven't even played. Anything that might be good for me? I could always put some hours into rimworld

Look long story short, what i expected to be a short install ended up being a 5 hour manhunt for an issue that resulted in needing a closed source instead of open source nvidia driver. Shes all switched to linux, and if her trial goes well and i don't end up tearing my hair out doing tech support. I may switch over as well, probably a different distro though.

One thing i will say though, even though the state of gaming has drastically improved since my first foray into linux, the "fine details" of gaming have not. Fuck me the first time i looked into the modding scene on linux and how much busywork that took, that just killed a little bit of my soul. Even trying to get her game open, we first had a xbox game controller bluetooth not connecting issue, my bandaid was to do a wired connection, and sitting here just now i hear a laugh and look back and see this in her game. What i can only imagine is some sort of video player error, but the game works. Its rough, but it works.

It'll be interesting to see how this goes, thats for sure

I don't care about any of that, let crazy be crazy. But policing up votes and downvotes is some psychopath shit. Can you imagine him sitting there in his little den, seeing the -2 on his comment and just FUMING "I'll show them, they'll rue the day!!"

Side note I'm convinced there's a conspiracy, by my estimates one in every 5 pilots is a furry. I base this evidence on nothing and will continue to do so until detained by a state official or law enforcement officer

Look into CBT techniques, a big part of it is training yourself to catch bad thoughts as they happen and correct them.

Also breathing techniques

I know this is a joke, but if you really want to improve your character play, I highly suggest taking a full week, spending 20 -30 mins a day roleplaying to imagined scenarios, replying to them out loud.

As most actors can tell you, if you want to nail down a character all you need is practice, once you gain that confidence you'll be the most interesting character at the table
