Just curious. As far back as I remember I only hear about them destabilizing countries that aren't fully in the pocket of American powerplayers. Sometimes they assassinate people, sometimes instigate coups, subvert media... and the #1 way to encounter them seems to be to try and take back control locally of one's country's oil and other valuable resources.

So my question is, have they ever done anything good?

I think it's cool how natural the motions look. Generated pics with Hailuo and then turned them in to movies with a blank prompt.

Was looking at my profile and thought it would be fun to see how many upvotes I've received compared to downvotes. Can this be done?

Dogs even not trained by other dogs shake their entire body (like shaking head but entire body) as one of the common ways to express 'im comfortable, good, everything is ok'. When I communicate to my dogs in their language, I often think when doing a shake for 'yes its ok', that this is one of the unusual areas where dog communication and human communication is nearly opposite and I'm curious why. Why does a human shaking their head mean No while a dog doing a similar shake, but of their whole body, translate not explicitly but very closely to Yes?

I've slowly become familiar with lemmy and learned the things like blahajj is an ally of trans but hides downvotes and kbin shows how you vote to others etcetc. i don't even know what hexbear is but hear it's ideologically wonky.

Lots of Lemmy instances basically have some decent aspects, but then something about them is a total dealbreaker.

I've started looking at moderation histories when coming across content removed by moderators and am now able to distinguish instances where ideologies not aligned with their admins get censored. I first noticed it when checking why certain posts were removed on Lemmy.ml and had to research lemmy.ml to understand they purposely are a socialist communist niche community so they basically remove content they don't want. I had a run in with a drama on Lemmy.world and curiously checked their mod log to realize that they actually quite often remove comments that don't match their ideology (along with finding controversial historical actions of .world).

So after all this getting to know instances involved in lemmy, you know which one has no weird dealbreaker attributes that I know of? I just realized tonight which one it is...

So cheers everyone.

Admins and Mods here you are doing great. Community, you are doing great too. grats on being the best instance

idk ive seen some crazy complicated stuff woven together by people who cant code. I've got a friend who has no job and is trying to make a living off coding while, for 15+ years being totally unable to learn coding. Some of the things they make are surprisingly complex. Tho also, and the person mentioned here may do similarly, they don't ONLY use ai. They use Github alot too. They make nearly nothing themself, but go thru github and basically combine large chunks of code others have made with ai generated code. Somehow they do it well enough to have done things with servers, cryptocurrency, etc... all the while not knowing any coding language.

Hilarious and true.

last week some new up and coming coder was showing me their tons and tons of sites made with the help of chatGPT. They all look great on the front end. So I tried to use one. Error. Tried to use another. Error. Mentioned the errors and they brushed it off. I am 99% sure they do not have the coding experience to fix the errors. I politely disconnected from them at that point.

What's worse is when a noncoder asks me, a coder, to look over and fix their ai generated code. My response is "no, but if you set aside an hour I will teach you how HTML works so you can fix it yourself." Never has one of these kids asking ai to code things accepted which, to me, means they aren't worth my time. Don't let them use you like that. You aren't another tool they can combine with ai to generate things correctly without having to learn things themselves.

Came across a list of pseudosciences and was fun seeing where im woo woo.

Lunar effect – the belief that the full Moon influences human and animal behavior.

Ley Lines

Accupressure/puncture

Ayurveda

Body Memory

Faith healing

Anyway, list too long to read. I guess Im quite the nonscientific woowoomancer. How about you? What pseudoscience do you believe? Also I believe nearly every stone i find was an ancient indian stone. Also manifesting and or prayer to manipulate via subconscious aligning the future. oh and the ability to subconsciously deeply understand animals, know the future, etc

In Kotlin, I can set a bitmap to be 500x500 and use ScaledBitmap to load an image in to it at that size without wasted memory junk as far as I know.

Now I am trying to do this in javascript so I can have my website display it's images to scaled sizes of my choosing without having to load the full size of every image first or manually making and uploading multiple sizes.

Everything I'm seeing says there is no way in JS. My ELI5 here is WHY? What makes Kotlin have this but not JS?

Ok, so you are telepathically asking me my entire review of the DenyDefendDepose case? Sure.

First I think with trillions of people highly supportive across social media, even reaching out to a supportive stranger and staying inside their house 3 months would have been a more legit escape plan than 'hang out in public'.

This case caused me to do my research in to healthcare and learn how America is the only developed country without Universal Healthcare and spends more for lower lifeexpectancy, more people uninsured, and more preventable deaths than other nations.

I think it could not have been any other way and I myself am like "ceos bad", but that the healthcare execs rejoiced when things went the way of 'kill all ceos' instead of 'reform american healthcare system' since attainable goal of Universal Healthcare was replaced by something that would encounter widespread resistance.

Also I compare this to the suffragette bombing campaign and, altho the media of the time was highly against them, I think it no coincidence that less than 5 years later suffrage happened. There was a time lawmakers did not have to fear stepping outside. But a few attacks later and stepping outside had become something with risk attached. Does not surprise me they then passed women's suffrage.

I personally think that, while destroying the elites in general is a noble goal, we are basically not there yet. My hope is that the next high profile 'terrorism' is again directed at american health insurance execs. Hopefully elites then view healthcare as their weakness where people are boiling over and view their position as salvageable if they deal with it by instituting Universal Healthcare to replace the american health insurance racket. We would then, at that point, choose to push farther but having attained an improvement along the way.

I also noticed that in no Mangione thread was anyone saying "come join our group pushing for american health insurance reform!" There felt like no larger joinable structure for supporting Luigi's cause and pushing it through to completion in an intelligent and strategic way.

What should we do? If you aren't a terrorist, I think we should simply keep Mangione in the public eye. Back to the suffragettes, them just complaining for years is like a person who has a chipped tooth and knows they should go to the dentist but they indefinitely put it off. Suffragettes starting their bombing campaign is when the tooth becomes painful. Do it enough and the person is like 'f this' and goes to the dentist. The more we focus on Luigi and Luigi copycats, the greater the sensation of pain to those troubled by him and their resulting fear.

Meanwhile humans, when put thru the same experiment, realize they can make the human in the unpleasant box pay $ if it wants out. They then learn to create more boxes for more profit.
