EDIT Ok so it's just the trolly problem.

EDIT2 : AHA War Games 1983. "The only winning move is not to play." (We might call this the final product of a lot of smart philosophical digestion, because it's a famous movie). There's always the perfectly valid option to ditch the riddle. (Because maybe the riddle is dumb, or maybe the riddle is no better than a thousand others, utilitywise )

There were 2 forks in the road at the end there.

Fork 1) The people running the institute were being totally evil. But it was to save the world. Oh what a moral conundrum!

King's choice : oh wait no, they were actually wrong about that. They were just being dumb. As explained by the genius. So all the bad stuff they did was for nothing good and the institute was just evil.

Fork 2) The psychic kids mindmelded into a magic hivemind deity. Wow. This is certainly something amazing and new in the world .

King's choice. : oh wait no, that whole thing immediately faded away after the climax.

Why? Maybe he was hoping for a tv series, which requires no big changes and moral simplicity

It goes like this : Focus intensely upon your work. Make it awesome. And let everything else go to hell.

In my town it's common to see somebody riding their bike through heavy traffic while looking at their phone. I don't get it at all.

Lemmy (and Reddit) are a collection of little dictatorships. But dictatorship is bad, I think, maybe.

They are not so much punishing you as cultivating a vote farm. You are just a weed here.

Let that be a lesson. Truth comes from authority, not the evidence of your senses.

Like, distinctive vibration patterns.

Hmm, surely it's been done. It seems like straightforward good thing.

My cycle goes : think think think, draw, think, draw, think, write code for a day or 3.

I use an ide or a text editor. never use that other stuff.

It would have to be an artificial limit. Which would mean that vampires are artificial. A biotech thing with a death timer build into the cellular whatever.

In Farmer's "Riverworld" they used a dark matter artificial soul. That would be a way in.

In "The Addiction" there's this old vampire named "Pana". He's pretty weird. Talks about the nature of suffering.

Says he can actually diet. Takes longer for a vampire to lose weight tho.
