Of course they did. Fixing it would cut into profits and hurt their "clean green" image so they didn't do anything.

In a sane world, fossil fuel companies-- by the very nature of the enterprise-- would operate under constant risk of triggers for severely punitive regulations or lawsuits. It says a lot about our national priorities that they aren't worried the costs of ignoring these things on any level.

Fines should be equal to their gross profits for every year the leaks were happening.

It's the only way they'll pay attention and do what's right.
