We should be carefully taking down names. Not to do anything now, but to hold them to account if another violent insurrection occurs.

Because even if Trump invades, these traitors will likely be hunting down the rest of us, and likely exterminating us as well. We need to be able to identify the traitors.

why don't they just fucking move to America then? jesus, the solution isn't to make canada america, but to move your ass to the country you like then

[-] spyd4r@lemmy.world -1 points 3 hours ago

Umm. Because you can't just move to another country.

[-] Auli@lemmy.ca 2 points 55 minutes ago

Huh? People don't all the time.

[-] neukenindekeuken@sh.itjust.works 2 points 40 minutes ago

Yes, you can. Almost every country has a path to a visa/citizenship somehow. Work visa, student visa, investment visa, expat visa, green card, etc. etc. etc.

It takes some effort, but less effort than trying to install a dictatorship in your own country would I suspect.

[-] alsimoneau@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 hours ago

Sure you can! Worst case you end up in Salvator instead but that is still another country.

[-] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 5 points 6 hours ago

These separatist fools think they get to take the land with them.

Remember the bots are also trying to sway public opinion as well. The more people hear the same story it creates this false consensus.

[-] Oderus@lemmy.world 3 points 6 hours ago

Dude in my gym just brought it up. Says we can sign a petition and if we get 10% of the population to sign it, the government will make a referendum and we can all vote on it. He doesn't think Alberta would have to pay back anything like highways, airports, banks and our share of the Canadian debt. Also thinks we can use the USD instead of the CAD which I find funny.

Why did countries stop hanging traitors? I'm pretty sure handing your sovereignty to a foreign nation classifies.

My wife comes from the west. I am from the East. We live in Nova Scotia now but we spent most of our lives in the west. We made some money in the oil and gas industry though it was in environmental reclamation not extraction. Lots of her family people are in extraction.

Some of her family are showing their true colors right now, loudly and proudly on Facebook and she is reading it all. People that tell her they love her are saying how we are all just in it for the transfer payments. It's all for the gravy train to keep rolling. She's watching her family disintegrate in real time on Facebook and tell her that she's a piece of shit as are her friends and relatives from my family, for voting against fascism. Not one of them has considered that they are speaking about her.

We're as fucked as our neighbors to the south.

We really should be turning an eye towards American owned media in Canada, especially since it's almost entirely owned by hard Republican interests (and that would be bad if I had said Democrat as well).

It's insane we can almost all collectively identify Trump as a threat and an enemy, but his disinformation arm isn't.

[-] ibelieveinthehousehippo@lemmy.ca 5 points 8 hours ago

Propaganda is a hell of a drug. I've read about similar experiences from Ukrainians with family in Russia.

[-] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca -1 points 6 hours ago

the west. We made some money in the oil and gas industry

Wrong. You're thinking MID-west. Get over the Rockies and we'll talk.

[-] Oderus@lemmy.world 4 points 6 hours ago

BC is Pacific, not the west. Alberta is the west.

[-] walktheplank@lemmy.world 1 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago)

I also studied and worked in northern BC in forestry and lived on the coastal islands as a hippie. Please don't presume to know me. Did you move to BC? That's a very un-BC thing to say in my experience of living there and being from somewhere else.

I have also never in my fifty years, thirty five of which I spent travelling and living in many different places and provinces, most west of Manitou ba and east of Quebec, never once have I heard Alberta and Sask called the mid west.

I got banned from Facebook for fighting literal terrorists. Who used the service to attack literal at risk children. If anything. mark Zuckerberg should be tried for crimes against humanity and he and his wife hung like the traitors to man kind they are.

[-] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 1 points 6 hours ago

banned [...] for [...] literal

Okay. I see it now. #thereAreOtherAdjectives

Facebook

This is our existential threat.

[-] walktheplank@lemmy.world 17 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago)

Can't disagree with you there. That shit can fuck right off and should be torn to a million pieces never to exist again. I'm not an authoritarian however and people are free to do as they choose. They choose badly a lot. Even those I love the most.

[-] al_Kaholic@lemmynsfw.com 7 points 15 hours ago

The stupidest thing Is making Canada one state. You guys should become states 51 to 151 and then take control of the USA government.

[-] DarkWinterNights@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago)

It would be regressive democratically; our MP system is far from perfect, but the electoral college is much, much worse.

Set aside all the things Albertans regularly enjoy and take for granted, and that there is absolutely no way back under the American Constitution, our taxes here would either skyrocket or massively erode our quality of life overnight.

A surface level awareness of things is telling of why it's very bad, but even that's asking a lot these days of the regular fellow who's exposure to politics is limited to what their favorite pundit says.

[-] al_Kaholic@lemmynsfw.com 2 points 2 hours ago

I hope nothing but the best for you northern bros, what I see is just the USA like 10 to 25 years ago. 🤞 I hope I'm wrong.

[-] ibelieveinthehousehippo@lemmy.ca 13 points 8 hours ago

Or how about you guys fix your own shit and leave us the fuck alone

[-] al_Kaholic@lemmynsfw.com 2 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

Nah can't trust you guys last time you burnt down the white house.

[-] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 4 points 6 hours ago
[-] Tiger666@lemmy.ca 2 points 5 hours ago

No, that shit happened and might again who knows.

[-] al_Kaholic@lemmynsfw.com 2 points 4 hours ago

Oh noooooooooooooo. Lol

[-] MajorMajormajormajor@lemmy.ca 9 points 11 hours ago

Canada wouldn't become a state, and would have no representation if they were annexed. People are delusional if they think they would get full statehood and all the rights that entails.

[-] dom@lemmy.ca 36 points 21 hours ago

So we were right. The cons and PP by association wanted to concede to trump.

[-] TheAgeOfSuperboredom@lemmy.ca 45 points 22 hours ago

They keep telling people to "move back to their own country" so why don't these assholes just move to Florida. Heck, we can probably even crowd source some funding to pay for their damn tickets.

[-] alquicksilver@lemmy.world 16 points 21 hours ago

As someone from the US, I propose a swap program. One pro-Trump admin Canadian for an anti-Trump admin person from the US.

[-] Alaik@lemmy.zip 3 points 11 hours ago

Dude can we rescue the ones from red states first?

[-] Evkob@lemmy.ca 14 points 20 hours ago

As someone from Canada, I'd be so down for this. What a great deal for us.

[-] Sciaphobia@lemm.ee 3 points 12 hours ago

Pick me pick me! I even have a reasonably sized vehicle instead of one of the child crunching lane hoggers, and I'm both literate and potty trained (unlike Trump).

[-] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 17 points 22 hours ago

It would probably be good for them to see how much better Canada has it than the US right now. Our billionaires are living large, but that's about it.

[-] SirMaple__@lemmy.ca 23 points 22 hours ago
[-] reddig33@lemmy.world 5 points 21 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago)

Is there a conservative versus liberal heat map of Canada? I’d like to see if there’s connectivity with the US version at the borders.

[-] alsimoneau@lemmy.ca 13 points 14 hours ago

Just look at the election results.

But no, it's urban vs rural, as expected.

[-] walktheplank@lemmy.world 1 points 18 minutes ago

Except in Nova Scotia.
