Fascinating field notes from genuinely one of the most contested and policed spaces of public expression and art, slash fanfiction. The Chinese example here is well-observed, but to a large extent it happens here in Southeast Asia as well to varying degrees (e.g. IP bans of known fandom-heavy spaces are common)

@cendawanita Good read.. thanks. Yeah occasionally I come across fics/arts on weibo and the fics are images of text, usually sideways/upside down; the art has a huge grey margin so you can't see what it is from the thumbnail, etc etc - they get really creative. I'm sure the content gets pulled down after a while so you really need to get them while they're hot.

@cendawanita idunno for sure because I don't go there to keep track of these accounts, though I think by now it should be obvious that the average nonconforming individual is pretty accustomed to moving around.
