The Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) is expected to announce as soon as Friday that it has decided to end its armed struggle against Turkey and will disband itself, two sources familiar with the matter told Middle East Eye.

The decision follows a statement issued in February by the PKK’s imprisoned leader, Abdullah Ocalan, in which he called on the organisation he founded more than 40 years ago to lay down its arms.

Terrible. This just emboldens fascist erdogan and HTS, and crushes any chance of sovereignty for Kurds or continuation of the flawed but progressive experiment in rojava.

The PKK was fighting Turkey but also Assad. The PKK's main sponsor was the US https://www.dailysabah.com/politics/war-on-terror/us-allocates-156m-to-fund-benefiting-terrorist-group-pkk

Now that Assad is gone and Sharaa is the most obedient doggy the US could wish for there is no more need to fund the PKK.

Yah I’m aware of their US backing and their oil deals. If Assad was still around he’d be the obvious bulwark against imperialism in the region even with his obvious flaws. I suppose I’d hoped rojava had more staying power than just what the US deals had supplied so they could fill some of that role. I just find it tragic to see the region pulled apart for plunder again to this extent

Kurds being used to destroy a Ba'ath leader then being abandoned by the U.S. for the second time

Total bullshit. Too many terrorists that have been involved in murdering civilians are not being held responsible against their actions with this "peace settlement".
