IP tells you where the request comes from, that’s it. It doesn’t tell you what language the user speaks. It looks like Google thinks otherwise, and many programmers are blindly repeating it for Google with no idea how do it properly.

Fucking hate youtube for this. Video titles are translated, but not always for some reason, and every other video has annoying "AI" audio translation or subtitles are active. They also don't seem to think that users can speak more than one language, horrible user experience.

YouTube has been very bad with this lately, like they will put a French title on an English video or the other way around, I really don't understand why or how this is happening. I used to hate creators making Hindi, tagalog or other foreign language with an English title and now it seems like AI bots are translating them automatically on a much larger scale.

AI video title translations annoy me to no end. I've even stopped watching some channels because of it (I know it's not the creator's fault but it is what it is).

Video titles have recently been disappearing for me on the home page. I guess no-text-titles would also solve it. /s

If only there is a well supported property that could be fetched to know the user's language...

it's usually higher up non-technical people making that decision. you are preaching to the choir.

Now you may send link on this post to your manager, to justify a proper decision

I can't understand why many sites (even google) still uses IP to determine language. My browser explicitly tells what language i prefer.
