  • Brush: AP Shave Co. Snakeskin handle w/ 26 mm Silksmoke Flattop/Fan hybrid knot
  • Razor: Leaf Thorn
  • Blade: Perma-Sharp half DE
  • Lather: E&S Rasage - Shaman
  • Post-Shave: Lavera Men sensitive ASB

-> 2-pass head shave (WTG, ATG) and 1 (WTG) around the beard. Good shave but very sloppy lather.

Initially I couldn't even get any lather going with this soap, but I refused to give up and it kinda paid off. I don't know if it maybe is due to the many oils E&S uses in their soap, but at first it only produced a watery mess with a deep brown tinge (I'll keep any comparisons to myself for the sake of you fine folks keeping your lunch in). I actually had to really grind my brush into the tub and swirl it like I was stirring up something to get it to something useable. While I really enjoy this one's tobacco heavy scent, lathering it is no pleasure compared to my other soaps.

Not shaving for 5 days meant that I had a considerable amount of stubble to knock down, but I am pleased that the Thorn does it quite effectively.

I used this shave to calm down, atm the stress of studying is really wearing me out. I think I need to slow things down a bit, the last four days (including the weekend) have been nothing but writing tons of stuff down.

Nevertheless, have an amazing day ✌🏻

Little by little my shaves are improving with this straight. Against the grain still feels pretty uncomfortable on my chin. I'm not sure whether this is because of technique or whether I should start considering having this razor honed.

Overall a great shave, and a beautiful combination of scents.

I'd stick it out a little longer. Technique definitely helps.

You're stropping between shaves, right? Sort of obvious but figured I'd ask.

Yeah before the shave I’ve been doing like 20 laps on nylon webbing then 20-40 on leather.

After the shave I’m doing about 20 on leather to make sure the blade is dry.

I found the chin area the most difficult (you have to adjust angle permanently), so this is normal. Give it some time, and you will be able to do it without issues.

  • Brush: Wolf Whiskers - "Gianmaria" w/Maggard 26mm Synthetic
  • Razor: Joseph Rogers & Sons - Near Wedge (3)
  • Lather: Chiseled Face - Ghost Town Barber - Soap
  • Post Shave: Barrister and Mann - Petrichor - Aftershave

Another nice straight razor shave. My 20th.

Today should be a lot of fun. It's the 1st annual Town Party hosted by the local concert venue. It'll be outside in a baseball field. The headliner is Guster, a great Alternative band most famous in the 90's but still putting out great music. They're touring this summer with Barenaked Ladies, plus a few shows with The Mountain Goats.

An annual Town Party sounds awesome. New traditions are always fun.

I can't get a bad shave with 70ᵗʰ, just a solid scent (dupe) in a great base. Now off to mini golf at the lake with the family. ☀

Bad skillz! It's not that complicated: Less water, less soap.

I'm still learning!
