What's your only fans?
It doesn't matter. I got off with just the teaser sample.
In this economy?!
Fuck....here take my upvote

Not gonna lie, i've had this exact string as my WhatsApp Status since around 2010 until i recently discovered that it still was there :D

FS TAB - 3 syllables
F STAB - 2 syllables
The choice is clear.
FSTAB (silent F) - 1 syllable
Yes FS TAB.
Since when has Linux been about taking the easy way out?
I mean, it's literally shorthand already for filesystem table innit?
We geeks do not care about syllables! We are the ones who "shortened" the 3 syllable "World Wide Web" to the 9 syllable "www"!
Still only 3 syllables in German 🤷
"Dub dub dub" is 3 syllables
By this logic we should just fuse the f and s for a monosyllabic word.
I just call it the filesystem table?
Filesystem Table.
It’s a shortening. Not a shortening of File Systemtable though.
Thanks for the information, but I started calling it f stab, an I shall continue to do so.
I literally didn't put it together that it was FS-Tab until a couple years ago when I was setting up an encrypted drive manually in /etc/crypttab
, something I had done many times before, when it finally clicked.
I've used Linux heavily for about 15 years.
Same, mentally I called it f stab for years and it dawned on me after using Linux for well over ten years.
Reading this meme (a while ago) is how I found out it's not pronounced f stab
Huh.... Been using Linux for 20 years, only just learned the origins of fstab.
How embarrassing.
wow, it never occured to me that it meant file system table. I feel like fstabl would have made more sense then. although it probable would have just become "fuhstabul"
fuhstabul
Or is it constanstinobul?
Fuhzantium?
This was decided at a time when single bytes for a file name was still valuable space. This is why vi is vi and not visual. UNIX is more than 50 years old :)
Wow whooshing sounds... Today I learned.
I just need it to be F STAB
F I L E S Y S T E M T A B L E
Some people don't know any better.
Others know.
The rest are psychopaths.
I say it kinda like fuhs tab
