“One and only” my ass. Every single Democrat governor will send in strike breakers just as quickly as any gop governor. Both parties serve capital.

Biden then continued to negotiate on their behalf.

"One and only?" Joe Biden literally busted the railroad union just a few years ago and the majority of the dems/dnc supported it. I smell some re-writing of history up in here.

[-] Cort@lemmy.world 9 points 3 weeks ago

The key word being governor. Joe was a senator and president, NOT a governor

[-] Rodneyck@lemm.ee 1 points 3 weeks ago

Does it really matter? They are all the DNC....union busters.

[-] Cort@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

Do words and their meanings matter? Yes.

Factual accuracy sometimes has that benefit

As much as I dislike Joe Biden he did actually do a good job there of making sure the workers got their demands without having to strike. The union even ended up thanking him for it a while after all the media attention died down on it.

[-] Rodneyck@lemm.ee 2 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

This is completely untrue. The workers did not have a choice on any it, but Biden did. Nobody forced him to side with the railroad companies over the workers. That was his doing.

Biden just knifed labor unions in the back. They shouldn’t forget it

Here's some links directly from the unions thanking Biden for working with the unions after the strike was blocked to get them what they wanted.

And they thanked... Drumroll...

Independent Bernie Sanders for continuing the Congressional pressure after Biden broke their strike.

Look I'm not a Biden fan, I think there's plenty to criticize him for and I would vastly prefer Bernie for president. But critiquing him on this when he got the workers what they wanted while also avoiding a strike which would have negative impacts both to workers and other people sounds like a win win to me and exactly what the president should be doing. Yeah I definitely think going the route of not allowing them to strike is definitely not the best but he did follow through to get them what they wanted. Strikes should be a last resort if a company won't give the workers what they want and if the president can step in and get them what they want without a strike that's generally a good thing.

[-] Bronzebeard@lemm.ee 2 points 3 weeks ago

He continued to negotiate for those workers even after stopping the strike (which is not union busting, the union still exists). You'd have been nothing when prices shot up even more if he let the railroads shut down, too, I bet

[-] manxu@piefed.social 17 points 3 weeks ago

He seemed actually okay until Trump got elected. But he's a multi-millionaire, so there was always the risk he was going to side with "his kind of people" before the rest of us

For instance, he had the case of Elijah McClain reopened. I only mention it because I hope a lot more people hear about Elijah McClain and keep him alive in their memories.

I was just going home. I'm an introvert. I'm just different. That's all. I'm so sorry.

[-] Formfiller@lemmy.world 9 points 3 weeks ago

The democrats are facists too they just try to conceal it. We need a workers party.

[-] SippyCup@feddit.nl 12 points 3 weeks ago

Conservatives are pro money. Liberals are pro money with rainbows.

Workers should own their own labor and have a right to be safe at work.

[-] spankmonkey@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

I dunno, worker's party sounds like it buys into the capitalist system. People who are retired, stay at home caretakers, and a ton of other people who don't work for a living should be included because the work that people do supports them as well.

We need a party for the general population. A real People's Party... Citizens United for...

Dammit!

We really do need a party for the general population's interests though, but all the good ones are taken by malicious actors.

As much as we're happy to have Pritzker in IL he busted unions in his own businesses before he was governor.
