Theme justification: Arko is the cheapest lather in my den by a decent margin. It's currently about $1.24 per shave stick if you buy a box of 12.

Daily challenge: Everything else in this shave is also the cheapest that I own:

This brush was $4 on Amazon and is the worst brush I've ever used. I almost don't believe it's badger. Full disclosure that I stole bmac's picture of the Amazon listing, it seems their badger brush option isn't currently available.

I usually kind of like the scent of Arko, but all I smelled during this shave was the stink of shitty animal hair. I also probably lost 25 hairs from the brush during the shave. I'm very tempted to throw this away, but I might keep it around just for next year's LG.

Stetson Cooling Moisture is the cheapest bottle of aftershave I own. I got it for $7.20 for 3.4 oz. of splash. It's very slightly mentholated, and likely full of shit that I don't want on my face all the time, but it's a classic scent and is pretty mild on the skin.

And finally, the razor is 3d-printed and cost u/josiguuh about $0.18 to make.

$FOF - Agua de Colonia Concentrada actually works really nicely with the lemon scent from Arko. The scent is super pleasant for the 20-30 minutes that it lasts.

It's also the least expensive fragrance that I own, at about $20 a bottle.

$SELFCARE - I was supposed to run today, but rested instead to give my back a chance to heal after tweaking it yesterday. I'm also off to a solstice party this evening with a bunch of our local friends. It should be a nice opportunity to unwind, catch up, and celebrate one of the longest days of the year.

Have a great weekend y'all!

It was 34 degrees today in Paris, and this is starting to get into the area where life becomes uncomfortable. But we will get some storms tonight (which should hit soon), and it should get fresher. Anyways, I refreshed myself with Electric Sheep, which for me is a very nice summer soap.

Have a good night!

Frugal Friday: Day 13 of Lather Games

  • Brush: Nom, super market boar
  • Razor: Wilkinson Sword
  • Blade: Wilkinson Sword
  • Lather: Vitos – Super Extra Coco
  • Post Shave: Wars – Classic - Energetyzujący Płyn Po Goleniu
  • Fragrance: Adidas – Dynamic Pulse

Theme justification: my cheapest shave goods didn't change, and the Vitos isn't in my mountain den this time, so this is nothing new. Also justifies the challenge

June 13th, 2025: Mug Soap

  • Brush: Semogue - 1800 Boar
  • Razor: Koraat 15/16 Full Hollow - Sub Exclusive 'Moarteen' (13)
  • Lather: Williams - Mug Soap - Soap
  • Post Shave: Spearhead Shaving Company - Seaforth! Heather - Toner
  • Post Shave: Dove - Men+Care Ultra-Hydra - Cream

Theme justification: I remember buying this for $1.50 before it was discontinued. The pucks are 1.75oz, making the price per oz $0.85 USD. In comparison, Stirling is about $2.49.

I thought it'd be fun to see if I could do a straight razor shave with this soap. Williams isn't bad per say, but it's also not very good. Still, I got a decent shave with decent slickness.

I upped the difficulty level by using a boar brush with it. In the past I've sort of figured out that Williams isn't meant to be lathered, but instead it should just be loaded into a sloppy wet brush and spread on your face. It works best that way, but I didn't really get there until the last pass. Even having cracked the code with this stuff, my muscle memory just wouldn't let me do it.

June 13th, 2025: Frugal Friday

  • Brush: Omega - 10077 Boar
  • Razor: Gillette - Tech $STAINLESSLESS
  • Blade: Gillette Blue
  • Lather: Van Der Hagen - Luxury Scented Shave Soap
  • Post Shave: Mennen - Skin Bracer - Aftershave
  • Fragrance: Old Spice - Classic - EdC

Daily Theme: I was originally going to use Proraso today, but found this puck of VDH soap for like $4 and that makes it cheaper. It actually lathered surprisingly well given the price. I need to give it another shot.

Daily Challenge: I used all my cheapest gear today of stuff I actually purchased and not just given to me. I used the loose Gillette Blue blade that came with this Tech. I don’t think the blade actually cut anything because it was extremely tuggy and then I never actually saw any stubble removed, nor does it feel like it. Can’t complain about the smells tho. The soap, Skin Bracer, and Old Spice are all classic scents that you can never go wrong with.
