Does Firefox Relay Suck? (lazysoci.al)

It seems an odd thing to ask, but my initial impressions aren't good

First of all, I just wanted screenshots and finding them was a chore. When I did find some, they're all based on the desktop experience. Part of the issue was because when I clicked sign in on the website and didn't sign in and the only way to go back was to clear cookies.

Secondly, during the sign up, some of the stuff wouldn't fit in my mobile browser, forcing me to scroll, if the page would even scroll. And this harkens back to the age old question, why is Mozilla so bad at web design? Maybe I'm articulating the question wrong, but it's like bugzilla, mobile is an afterthought, hence so many pages being desktop only, Planet Mozilla hasn't even tried for a mobile layout. I understand that Mozilla is a big company and works by the numbers, but those same people at their work computers that you're obsessed about have phones and tablets that they use outside of work.

So when I was looking for an email alias solution, the one that looked the best was Addy.io. it has screenshots of an app, already much better. Mozilla where is the Firefox Relay app? Oh that's right, there isn't one. And honestly, if not for me wanting to support Firefox, I would've gone straight for Addy.io.

I even checked the Thunderbird Pro news, only to find out they weren't going to offer the service, even though it makes a tonne of sense logically, but also don't compete with Firefox for revenue makes sense too

Anyway, the reason I'm asking is because I feel that the experience should be better and while I want to support Firefox financially, I don't want them to think a half arsed experience is good enough. So, does it suck or is it just me?

I like DuckDuckGo's Email Protection a lot, and I switched from my paid SimpleLogin account to it. DDG is free and unlimited, the aliases are human-readable, and sites rarely block them. The downside is that they're sort of hard to manage in multiple respects, but Qwacky helps a lot with the generation of them. The only way(?) to disable an alias is to receive an email through the address and then click the link at the top. There's also no dashboard to see all your aliases, but I store each DDG email alias in Bitwarden next to the relevant account; that way if I start getting spam from an address I can figure out which account is doing it by searching my vault for it. Creation of an account also requires downloading their extension or their browser I think? You can uninstall it immediately after and manage with Qwacky instead though.

It definitely feels too good to be free considering the competition, but I'd honestly be happy to start paying for it again if they start asking, and I trust DuckDuckGo to not disappear overnight and leave all my accounts fucked. I'm also guessing DDG will eventually implement a better dashboard and management tools, so I'm okay with limping along on an okay UX experience for now given the end results.

I've been using DDG's solution with Bitwarden generator and I like it a lot. I'm just not good at writing down what service I use the email with, and I use it quite a lot with websites that require an email address without creating an account, so I wish there was some kind of a magic solution that did it for me, heh. luckily I'm getting virtually zero spam in my inbox, so I'm yet to need to track down who had sold my data to the spammer.

It's good, I'm not using the paid version but for free you get 5 email masks ans since it's not a shady or spammable website, most websites accept mozmail emails.

The only issue I have is that rarely I get a big delay on my emails. One time I had to wait 10 minutes to get a mail from my alias. Usually it forwards the email in under half a minute though.

It's ok, I'm using the free tier and regularly delete and set up new addresses. Works for the really spammy stuff.

I also good a paid account with addy.io where I added one of my domains, that's something I use for more legit services where I want more control about the username, so I can always use something like their.domain.tld@my.domain.tld and never have to worry about finding obscure usernames. And if I stop using a certain service, I can just switch off the alias and never bother about retention crap.

Not much choice out there.

addy.io, simplelogin or firefox relay.

I'd say try out the free options and upgrade when you make up your mind.

I personally have a vibe preference for addy.
