June 15th, 2025: Father's Day

  • Brush: Omega - 10048 28mm Boar
  • Razor: GEM - Micromatic Open Comb
  • Blade: Personna GEM PTFE (7)
  • Lather: Proraso - Red - Soap
  • Post Shave: Mennen - Skin Bracer - Aftershave
  • Fragrance: Le Labo - Oud 27 - EdP

Theme: All of these companies (except the frag) were established before I was born (late 80’s).

Challenge: Unfortunately there was no chance for me to do extra for my shave today. Though, personally, I'd argue that the quality shave and excellent scents from this afternoon were $selfcare enough to justify calling it a spa day.

$FOF - Oud 27, which was an anniversary gift from my wife, is a real stanky funky oud scent. It plays really nicely with the sandalwood in Proraso Red and the green/powder vibe of Skin Bracer. I love the progression of this scent. It starts super animalic and funky and fades into a lovely warm spiciness. I may have to grab a full bottle of the frag when this decant is finished.

June 15th, 2025: Old and stanky

  • Brush: Maggard Razors - 2 Band 24mm Badger
  • Razor: Joseph Rogers & Sons Near Wedge (8)
  • Lather: Mäurer & Wirtz - Tabac - Soap
  • Post Shave: Old Spice - Hawkridge - Aftershave
  • Post Shave: Declaration Grooming, House of Mammoth - Cerberus - Liniment
  • Fragrance: Barrister and Mann - Lavender, Interrupted - EdP

Theme justification: According to Wikipedia, Mäurer & Wirtz was founded in 1845. I was born in the 1900's, making this brand older than I am.

The Tabac scent was created in 1959, which is also older than I am.

I think this razor needs a quick refresh on the 10k. Recent shaves have been lacking. I polished it a little bit with Flitz yesterday and I imagine the paper towel hitting the edge didn't help, but even yesterday's shave wasn't that great. If anyone has a quick tutorial on how to polish a straight razor, I'm willing to buy a benchtop buffer. I've just never done it before and wonder what kind of polishing compounds and stuff might work well on this type of steel.

Happy father's day! I have a child, which makes me a father. I'll be joining some friends at a local pond beach to grill, have a fire pit, maybe play frisbee and corn hole, that sort of thing. Looking forward to it. Oh yeah, and probably beer.

  • Brush: AP Shave Co Summer 28mm G5C
  • Razor: Thiers Issard Le Transatlantic 7/8" Full Hollow Round Point
  • Lather: Saponificio Varesino - 70th Anniversary - Soap
  • Post Shave: Saponificio Varesino - 70th Anniversary - Aftershave
  • Fragrance: Saponificio Varesino - 70th Anniversary - Eau de Parfum
  • Talc: Yardley Classic

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

Wonderful luxury shave and as close as I get to a spa day. On this Father's Day, I used Saponificio Varesino which, in fact, is a soap manufacturer that is older than me 🙂

June 15th, 2025: Father's Day

  • Prep: Proraso - Eucalyptus Oil & Menthol - Pre Shave Cream
  • Brush: Omega - Bambino Boar $JETSETTER
  • Razor: Merkur - 34C
  • Blade: Gillette Silver Blue
  • Lather: Mäurer & Wirtz - Tabac - Soap
  • Post Shave: Mäurer & Wirtz - Tabac - Aftershave
  • Post Shave: L' Occitane Homme - L'Occitan After Shave Balm
  • Fragrance: Brut - Classic - Splash On

Hardware Scavenger Hunt: I got this Bambino from my Proraso Travel Shave Kit. It is explicitly marketed as a travel sized version of the classic boar brush.

Daily Theme Justification: Tabac was first introduced in the early 1950's. I was born in the 1990's.

Daily Theme: What else is there to say about Tabac? It is stinky, it is good, and it heals the mind body and soul. I was lucky enough to find a tallow puck from our friend u/frankieivfingers and the lather was great today. All of my other gear was also consisted of brands that are older than me. Judges can look up the rest if there curious, but since it is just the lather that matters, that's all ya get. Participants can't be doing all the heavy lifting and work, right???

Daily Challenge: While I wasn't able to dim lights and had no candle handy (nor safe space to put it in my bathroom FWIW), I made sure to put on some tunes (MGMT) and took my sweet ass time. After my shower, I started with a hot towel, which I never do, but it was nice to feel that for a few minutes. To balance that out, I used some Proraso Green Pre Shave and massaged it in for a good minute and let it sit while I was getting everything else ready. I used my Bambino on my Tabac puck and this was by far the best lather with Tabac I'd ever gotten. With hard pucks, using light pressure and just the tips (giggity) produced an excellent lather, thank you for the wisdom u/KerblimeySkal. The lather was damn near perfect for all passes and the Tabac splash was refreshing as well, dank yet clean. Finished with some balm that I also never use, but it has a nice calming scent to it. Brut Classic to finish it off. This Classic scent is seriously good and cheap and I would urge people to give it a try.

Father's Day: Day 15 of Lather Games

  • Brush: Zenith 506B MB (27 mm × 51 mm Manchurian badger)
  • Razor: Victoria 4 (6/8", half hollow, round tip, carbon steel) $AllNatural
  • Lather: Palmolive – Classic
  • Post Shave: Hâttric – Classic
  • Fragrance: Creed – Silver Mountain Water

Theme justification: Everything's on theme here. Pennellificio Pandolfo (the family business producing Zenith brushes) was founded it 1902, Victoria (today's name: Victorinox) was founded in 1884 (under the name Messerfabrik Carl Elsener), Palmolive's company in 1864, Olivin, the company behnd the brand Hâttric was founded in the early 1940's (they are vague, which for a German company in that time is... concerning), and Creed was founded as a tailor shop in 1710. I was born after the 1940s.

Swiss Father's Day was two weeks ago on LG opening day, and I celebrated it with a big dry-aged rib steak. Today, I'm using by Victoria razor: under its new name, Victorinox, many Swiss men have an almost personal connection to this brand. At some point in elementary school, your parents (typically your dad) will decide that you're old enough to get your own Swiss army knife from Victorinox. It's one of those "big boy" moments in early childhood. This first army knife lasts usually until your teenage years when suddenly, you "need" one with a cork screw. A bit later in boot camp, you're issued your official Swiss army knife along with your personal assault rifle (you use its screw driver to adjust the sights). By this time, having a Victorinox knife in your pocket is just normal for me. When leaving home, I pat my pockets in a quick phone-wallet-keys-knife check, and it all started with my first knife that my father gave be some 35 years ago.

Today's challenge: I got up before my wife and djunior, made coffee, listened to my podcasts and had a nice shave. Robes and candles wouldn't help me relax more.

Septidi 27 Prairial an 233 de la Révolution, jour de Verveine

All good.
