Very cool, and the best part is that these platforms aren't directly competing because here I am posting about it on Lemmy. It's fascinating that the Fediverse can evolve in a way that doesn't shed users.

So Piefed absorbed a lions share of the lemm.ee refugees it looks like?

that checks out, the closure announcement was made on the 4th of june

in the meantime blahaj also opened a piefed instance, so some of the new users came from blahaj

Yup i’ve started using a piefed account to complement my lemmy one. As more featured become fully compatible with voyager and the ability to turn downvotes off becomes a thing on piefed I think I’ll make a complete switch.

I don’t think they bring much and a lot of the most “hivemind” behaviours are linked to downvotes.

Someone having a shitty opinion just shows as 0 upvotes anyways so has the same effect.

Plus having downvotes disabled conditions me to basically ignore shitty takes instead of downvoting them and often replying which IMO has made my lemmyverse experience better.

Also, it makes me a little less worried to post what I truly think without conforming to other people’s stuff. Since I don’t care if I get downvoted.

Ty for the insight! I suppose it just makes the experience generally less confrontational.

Lemmy.zip opened up piefed.zip as well.

I'm on piefed.ca! Love to see Piefed gaining traction. It's a much better experience.

Lemmy.zip got 800 new accounts, so I'm not sure: https://lemmy.zip/post/42743443

Welcome!

Can you imagine, years ago how the internet was before? We know Facebook, Twitter, Tiktok, Youtube. We knew blogger, Tumblr, Skyrock... and long before, it was the forum era as phpBB..and mail-lists.

And now with ActivityPub, we are reshaping the web, and achieving much with lots of freedom. So thank you all, and welcome 🤟😁
