The manufacturing of lenses and frames for glasses is almost monopolistically controlled by one company, EssilorLuxottica, who make huge profits from an almost-captive market. I suspect that the most likely outcome is that they’ll use their capital to buy out whoever patents this technology. Given that they are tied up with Facebook/Meta (they have been collaborating on “smart glasses”, and Meta recently bought a stake in them), it’s not impossible that you’ll only be able to get autofocus glasses by being assimilated into the Zuckerborg.
