Are they still owned by the cult?

[-] Hyggyldy@lemmy.world 12 points 2 years ago

My friend, we are all owned by the cult on this glorious day.

Short answer: no, they were owned by a Chinese company and then were recently spun off into an independent company. Here is the latest news on management.

Did I miss something about neopets?

[-] Voli@lemmy.ml 5 points 2 years ago

They used to be owned by the church of Scientology or still are, haven’t checked for a while

How exactly will anyone run Flash content in 2023?

[-] nefarious@kbin.social 25 points 2 years ago

The team is bringing back some of the games by integrating the Ruffle emulator for the now-defunct Adobe Flash, and more than 50 games will be brought back starting on July 25th. Over the long term, “we hope to convert many of the most beloved games to HTML5,” TNT says.

[-] BarrierWithAshes@kbin.social 4 points 2 years ago

Use ruffle. It converts flash to wasm.

[-] Sacha@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Their little newsletter thing promises reflect support but it's depressing that there's a lot of games that just haven't been converted. Neopets fan sites have managed to convert some, in fact Grundo's cafe might have more working games than the official site at this point. =/

[-] Nintendo@lemmy.world 8 points 2 years ago

I will never forget how my Scorchio got changed into a fuckin Jetsam at the secret laboratory but my account got hacked a week later :(

[-] Nintendo@lemmy.world 12 points 2 years ago

also never forget how a 2/3 carrot and pea omelette sold for more than a full carrot and pea omelette

[-] Nouveau_Burnswick@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

I made my neopets cash running penny stocks in the neopets stock market.

[-] swan@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

Neopet cash never made any sense to me as a kid lol

[-] Nintendo@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

I'm an adult now and don't know how the real economy works either. same same

[-] Nerii@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago

Eh they deleted my pet and account, so fuck them.

[-] drmoose@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago

Kinda hilarious tbh. No kid today is going "to a website". kid mini game apps are off the charts now (Roblox, HypeHype etc.) and Neopets clearly wants to dip into that but that's clearly not the way to do it. Is it for the parents?

[-] starcat@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago

I'll never get over my account getting a temporary ban because I was chatting with my sister about one of her foster cats being pregnant. Apparently "pregnant" was a problematic term. I moved over to Marapets and I actually still check into that site daily.

[-] BrudderAaron@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

Man if Neopets can recover from the stagnant maintenance mode they've been in for YEARS at this point, I would be happy. I haven't done anything on that site since I was a kid, but it's always been a fun thing to remember.

[-] OhStopYellingAtMe@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

Oh wow. I remember playing Neopets back when I was in college, while I worked nights at Kinko’s. It just only just launched, only had a few games and not many pet options yet. I had a “korbat” I think.
I’m amazed that site is still around.

Wow, good timing for me, I just got back my 20yr old account last week, haha. I played way too much of Faerie Bubbles and Snowmuncher as a tween. :)

[-] SuperLogica@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

How did you get back in?

I have my old login details but they don’t work 😭

[-] xNekoyaki@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

I ended up contacting support, they needed me to tell them the original email address I used to sign up (I didn't need access to it, just needed to match their records), my birthday, and the city I signed up in, how recently I was able to log in and stuff. They also asked about my inventory, but I didn't remember any of that. They took about a week to respond initially, but once they got in touch, they responded to my info pretty quickly! :) There were some other questions too, but I don't remember them, haha. Good luck!! I hope you are able to get your account back too! :)

[-] MKBandit@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

I had a chompy but could never recover my account after I forgot the password
