With all secret shells, hearts containers and 0 deaths. Was a fun experience but a challenge I will not do again.

Was intending on playing links awakening again. But I happened to do so since I just got a switch lite and was trying out some games on it. Then I got sucked back in.

Such a classic game

Congratulations! It was as so good on my OG Gamboy and just as good on my Switch.

Is this the one with the giant egg?

And they redid it in with 3d? And hella color?! Omg what?!

[-] ampy@discuss.online 3 points 5 days ago

They had a color version! Link's Awakening DX

[-] agentshags@sh.itjust.works 1 points 5 days ago

On the Gameboy color, right? I think I had that one too, unless it was that SNES adapter for game boy games... I'm feeling old now

Was dx only like 4 colors, maybe I'm all mixed up

No? Gameboy color had a lot of supported colors, the game looks really nice. Definitely check it out, I think it's aged well.

I must be getting confused lol. I had a lime 🍋‍🟩 green color. Maybe I just didn't have the DX cart?

[-] ampy@discuss.online 2 points 4 days ago

That's probably what it is. Original Gameboy cartridges on Gameboy Colors only add 4 different colors to spries and the map.

I mean... It would be weird if they redid it in 3D, but kept it black and white. These days, color is pretty much a given for most games.

Fair enough. I guess I just haven't had my finger on the pulse gaming lately, but I remember beating it on the game boy a long time ago it's pretty awesome to see that it's been updated like this!

I played it over and over again so many times on Gameboy Color. Such an awesome game.

lol, wow, I can barely get through on the easiest mode. props to you.

First 2 dungeons are a slog. Get a fairy bottle and cream and it’s slow going. But it levels the playing field

Yup, but since you can get a bottle early, it's not too bad. Once you get the item that lets you find hearts again, it's not much harder than regular mode.

Weird(?) question but did they "fix" the issue where you could "miss" a shell? Back in the older versions they had that.. It was even in the DX version. Though I guess it's more of a feature than a bug?

Yup, has a grapple point for it

Congrats!

I did the same, but I think I had one death at the start. The game rocks and is one of my favorites on Switch, but it doesn't have great replay value (I'm not into speed-running).

I did the same w/ Skyward Sword, which is my favorite on Switch. Hero mode on that game is much harder IMO.

I played about 6 hours of skyward sword on switch 2 and I couldn't get used to the controls so I stopped playing. Its a bummer because I really wanted to see the story :(

That's fair, I didn't like the controls much either, but I got used to it after a while.

The story progresses pretty similarly to Ocarina of Time:

  1. Tutorial island where you can explore and learn controls
  2. Three worlds to explore
  3. Big plot event after 2
  4. Return to worlds from 2, but expanded
  5. Final dungeon

I'm obviously skipping stuff and keeping things intentionally vague to avoid spoilers, my point is it felt like it followed a similar formula.
