As is often the case, the US is somewhat of an exception to the rule AFAIK.

The combination of the hugeness of the country, how central cars are in the overall culture, and how under-regulated the labor market is makes Americans willing/forced to endure ridiculously long commutes, probably longer than people would in any other country.

I doubt it, looking at large cities, especially in cities of the global south, people spend way more time in traffic. I know at least from some Central American cities where most people spend more like 3-4 hours daily in traffic. Would love to see figures for this though and compare how much difference there is.
