Glad to see ffmpeg is still going strong, I used it years ago to do some project 1999 EverQuest streaming on twitch running on a Manjaro dist install running EQ in wine.

Really the internet was built for chatrooms and being too lazy to walk across a campus to give someone a file

Well, video streaming was AFAIK pioneered by porn sites, though not necessarily pornhub, but it could be seen as a representative

Wouldn't be surprised if YouTube and Netflix don't use FFmpeg. I am pretty sure they use custom built hardware encoders. Pretty sure Netflix has a lot of blog posts about building their own encoding methods

Actually, can we do that for just all open source software. I'm getting kinda tired of large multinationals using open source for free to make billions over billions and then give back a dollar or so for each of those...

Maybe there are exceptions here and there but most companies give back shit
