It’s a combination of chinas leadership being more competent and Americas leadership sole interest being to enrich the elites. I mean I’m missing massive amounts of nuance on both sides but that’s the glaring issues for me here.
For sure, the reason Trump's trade war was a disaster is precisely the fact that China has proven itself to be a good actor and established strong ties with the rest of the world. When the US started throwing tantrums on the global stage, countries flocked to China seeing it as a sane alternative.
