ICE is becoming a paramilitary organization, Trump's personal army. It isn't really fulfilling its supposed role for which it was created in the first place.
ICE has a bigger budget than the entire Russian military.
Right!? It was supposed to be a paramilitary organization that harassed, assaulted, disappeared, and murdered people crossing the border. SMH truly lost their way...
Critics have been saying that about the ICE for over 2 decades. It's a force that doesn't adhere to congress but instead only the president, it operates without oversight or courts issuing their warrants. It's literally the modern Gestapo.
What is that agents name and badge number?
what does that agent’s face look like?
338 Lapua.
ICE is a terrorist organization, but if they aren't going to abolish it then we need to abolish ICE members. One by one by one.
ICE is something far worse than that. They're the fucking Gestapo.
This country is going to need a new level of cult deprogramming to get anywhere. I won't see it in my lifetime.
Maybe this time we hang all of the confederates and not let any live so this shit doesnt happen again?
Agreed. As seen with my nation and Germany, the Confederates and Nazis went on to raise Klanners and Stormfronters. ICE should be trialed and executed as a class, else they will escape the justice that they deserve. It isn't kind, but necessary.
They chose to embrace evil, and should die because of the sins they have earned.
Apparently, the Nuremberg trials executed less than 210 Nazis. Considering how many Jews and other peoples have been slaughtered, that is a bullshit result. Trial by individual isn't sufficient for institutionalized war crimes.
The republican traitor filth must be brought low.
I really don't understand how cons think liberals "ruined" anything. This country could be very great if the cons would stop trying to make everyone's lives miserable by constantly poking their nose where it doesn't belong.
"Things would be better if it weren't for [group], they're the problem, not the rich." It's a lie as old as civilization and conservatives always fall for it.
Abolishing paramilitaries in all forms should be a baseline Democratic position. It ain't the 1770s anymore.
I lived in DC for 6 years and always wore my seatbelt. Never had any issues. I doubt a senator would be driving through the areas where you would have an issue too.
A mid-size nuclear powerplant is required to drive the searchlight that'd enable this level of projection.
Wow that sounds familiar, where have I heard language like that before?
ice pricks, ice holes
Meal Team Six is pretty badass with their masks.
Bunch of fat ass pussies.
This makes my blood boil. While I appreciate the resistance the filmers showed, their response could have been better.
First and foremost, they should have dialed 9-1-1. “There is a group of masked and armed men assaulting and kindnapping a man off the street! They are trying to pull him into a black sedan with tinted windows! Send police now!”
After that, let them know in no uncertain terms that fascist pieces of shit are not welcome here. Call them out on their un-American actions
These guys are total pussies. Either shoot them or unmask them. They are already on camera so swarm them and pull down a few masks. Once you ID a few of them publicly, the rest will drop like flies.
And lose your jobs, your homes, and your freedom in the process as you get prosecuted for assaulting federal agents where the authorities have an incentive to make an example out of you to deter future incidents.
I'm not expecting the world to change from holding hands and singing hymns, but insulting people (who already started confronting them instead of just pretending not to see) for not sacrificing more than I'd have to seems rather narrow-minded to me.
You’re going to lose all those things anyway.
If this continues unopposed, yes, but asking individuals in specific situations to sacrifice their own lives without an organized community does not sound reasonable to me.
Considering the mass surveillance well underway, the window to organize effectively has already closed. Doing so puts you in as much danger unmasking an agent and in this scenario they will just slap the terrorism label on it and that’s the end of the conversation.
It’s preferable to mass organize but it’s too late now. Keep fighting. We are going to lose but we are going to make this as difficult and expensive as possible anyway. They don’t get to be comfortable.
Then do it in a big enough group that they wont dare prosecute you and show how many people opposed them, or try to isolate you and show how weak they are.
Making large groups of people that all agree with you spontaneously appear at a location is typically not super easy.
True! But everyone hates ice.
Hey USA. How's that 2nd Amendment working for you?
"🎶Land of the free, home of the brave🎵"
Feeling brave and free enough to stop a rapist, racist, paedo nazi from overtaking your country yet?
Or are you going to carry on waiting for someone else to do something?
Maybe I'm in the minority (heh) but I think that ICE shouldn still be a thing but should not be a federal agency. Maybe a sub division of a state trooper or county sheriff department.
Right... Everyone knows that local police and sheriffs are shining examples of accountability and restraint...
You're right. What might be another option rather than shutting it down outright? Or if you do strongly feel that way, what should be done about illegal immigration? How can we either speed up the approval process or allow workers to work and taxes get paid?
The last administration came up with a great solution that would have actually worked (no, I will not summarize it in a lemmy comment, it was nuanced and well thought out) but the Republicans blocked it because they don’t want working, humane solutions. They just want slaves.
Immigration and customs are federal issues, not state issues, no matter how you slice it.
The problem isn't that there exists an organization to enforce, but the entirety of its approach ("find people to kick out / take to concentration camps"). Within the framework we have today, something like a non-citizen being convicted of a crime (handled by local/state) being handed off to ice to deport to the appropriate country of their residence? Sure.
But also borders are pretty stupid if a lot of the other stupid stuff around it goes away too.
Thanks for the thoughts and information in your post. Those are some valid points.
They're already under the Department of Homeland Security I'd imagine. I guess I don't really have a better answer. I feel like the department needs to exist but not to this extent. Kind of like how the FBI doesn't do patrol work, then maybe ICE should handle it only after it's been an identified issue or an established case.
Thanks again for making it a conversation. I don't know everything and I'm not afraid to say it.
What does ice do that other, less militarized, agencies can't already do?
Aggression aside I feel like ICE should be more on the legal side of things than the force side of things
