  • Gal Gadot suggested that political pressure on celebrities to speak out against Israel contributed to Disney’s Snow White underperforming at the box office, though she acknowledged other factors played a role.

  • The film, starring Gadot and Rachel Zegler, earned $87 million domestically compared to higher-performing Disney remakes; Zegler faced criticism for her pro-Palestine stance during promotion.

  • Gadot emphasized she enjoyed working with Zegler, said her “conscience is clean” regarding support for Israel, and expressed hope for peace and safety for all people.

Snow White failed because it’s a bad movie.

And any celebrity not volunteering their disgust at Israel over the Gazan genocide should be boycotted.

[-] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 3 points 5 months ago

I heard she is an ex IDF soldier. If true she can fuck off. Movie sucked because of CGI dwarves that could of been played by little people. Also fact we didn't need a live action Snow White.

Isn't serving in the military mandatory in Israel?

[-] SulaymanF@lemmy.world 6 points 5 months ago

She did a lot more than the mandatory minimum, she cheerled them and praises them every chance she gets.

You get sent to prison if you dodge the draft. Fuck every single Israeli who chooses participating in genocide over a prison sentence

[-] IAmNorRealTakeYourMeds@lemmy.world 1 points 5 months ago

there more I live the more I respect the friends I met who preferred jail to the army.

lost contact with them, but I hold more respect for them the longer I live.

Doesn't matter fuck her she a shit actress.

[-] Alexstarfire@lemmy.world 0 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

I don't have an issue with that opinion. It's the condemning her for serving in the military when it seems like she had no choice that I have a problem with.

Not that I know her opinion on the current state of Isreal.

[-] SulaymanF@lemmy.world 3 points 5 months ago

She did more than serve the mandatory amount, she chose to promote them and publicly supports them.

[-] queermunist@lemmy.ml 2 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

There are Israelis who chose prison time over serving in their colonial occupation army.

[-] mrdown@lemmy.world 6 points 5 months ago

She didn't have the obligation to express her proudness of doing the "service " though

[-] Cethin@lemmy.zip 0 points 5 months ago

The comment above needs to say that then. They had issue with her serving at all.

[-] mrdown@lemmy.world 0 points 5 months ago

Everybody should have an issue with people serving in an occupation force

[-] Cethin@lemmy.zip 1 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

These people are just turning 18 and probably reluctant to leave their home and family/friends and probably don't want to be in jail either. They've spent their entire life with propoganda shoved down their throats and with tons of pressure to just get it done. No, I won't hold that against them.

I'll hold it against them if they choose to take other actions, but not that. They didn't choose where they were born.

Wherever you are living, you've done far less than it would take for these people to avoid serving. You're comfortably sitting at home with relatively few worries.

[-] mrdown@lemmy.world 0 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

Just replace israelis with russians and you should see how dumb is your comment is. The least she could do is just to shut her mouth and don't be proud about serving in that genocidal terrorist army

[-] Cethin@lemmy.zip 1 points 5 months ago

The last part, yes.

I don't have any issue with Russian people either. It sucks what they're being forced to do, and should be killed because they're being used to invade another nation. That doesn't mean I'll hold it against them if they decide to work with us against the Russian elite that are causing the issues.

Don't make potential allies into enemies because of their past. Gal is not a potential ally. She's an Israel sympathizer. That's the thing that's bad about her, not that she served in the IDF.

[-] mrdown@lemmy.world 0 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

She is an occupation and a genocide supporter because she was proud of joining the occupation and genocidal force.

[-] Cethin@lemmy.zip 1 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

That's what I said! I don't know why you're arguing with me. It's bad because she was proud of it. It isn't bad just because she had to.

Don't hold it against people who are against it just because they served. That doesn't define them. Their choices do. If they serve in the IDF and then work against it, they're allies. If they don't serve and work with them, they're still enemies even though they didn't serve. To say it a different way, the service isn't the issue; their choices are.

Or...or, it sucked and she's actually a terrible actress.

[-] dustyData@lemmy.world 2 points 5 months ago

I don't think she's a terrible actress. More like middling. She really struggles with bad directors and poor scripts. She doesn't have that geniality to inject original interpretation into her characters. I mean, I've seen analysis by body language acting specialists that say that all actors in snow white shared the same bad body language mistakes, and that's a direction error. They were told to act that way, and they did. As is half of their job. The other half is saying "great, that was fun. But would you give me two or more takes to try something different?"

[-] rafoix@lemmy.zip 6 points 5 months ago

Nah, she’s terrible. I’ve yet to see a scene in any movie that is better because she’s in it. Even Mark Walhberg can act better than her and he can’t act.

[-] PapaStevesy@lemmy.world 5 points 5 months ago

She doesn't have that geniality to inject original interpretation into her characters.

That's like the definition of a bad actor.

I've seen analysis by body language acting specialists

What, why?

[-] ur_ONLEY_freind@lemmy.zip 10 points 5 months ago

Or the movie "snow white" hurt the movie "snow white" at the box office

[-] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 1 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

It always has to be some outside factor with these idiots. Good forbid they look inward and ask some tough questions to themselves, i.e. "why do all MY movies bomb so bad?"

[-] AmazingAwesomator@lemmy.world 3 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

the movie was pretty bad...

i described it to my friend like this, and had to double verify that i was not joking; this actually happened in the movie:

the movie didnt know what it wanted to be. it flipped back and forth between a mediocre comedy and an ultra-serious drama so quickly that when someone gets shot, goes into surgery and the tone changes to somber the audience is left to believe an important character just died............ "GuESs wHAt TiME iT iS?!" and happy breakout into song and dance.

i just couldnt after that and left.

[-] lobut@lemmy.ca 2 points 5 months ago

I mean, my favourite TV show does that all the time! Scrubs can swap on a dime. Then again it's made by the masterful Bill Lawrence.

[-] NotASharkInAManSuit@lemmy.world 3 points 5 months ago

Disney fans don’t give a fuck about Palestine, sometimes there is just such a thing as a bad movie. People are tired of dumb live action remakes, and in general Snow White as a story just did not age well and was never going to be a success in modern cinema.

[-] ThePowerOfGeek@lemmy.world 3 points 5 months ago

This is complete bullshit. Zegler's one or two pro-Palestine comments made barely any difference to how the movie was received. And Gadot saying this smacks of of deflection and Israel persecution complex. By far the bigger factors were: nobody wanted to see it (and it was clearly a shallow money-grab by Disney), the whole dwarf portrayal fiasco, and Zegler being generally mouthy and unlikeable.

[-] ZoteTheMighty@lemmy.zip 3 points 5 months ago

Gal Gadot is probably mostly talking about herself. She's Israeli and has been pro-Israel for a long time.

[-] AmidFuror@fedia.io 0 points 5 months ago

Was there not a backlash to Snow White being portrayed by a person of color? Prior to everyone knowing it was also a bad movie, I have to think that would have had an impact. Especially because a major part of Disney's market is appealing to families in flyover states.

[-] ThePowerOfGeek@lemmy.world 1 points 5 months ago

Good point. That was another factor. There were a lot of scandals (some legit, some silly) the with that movie. But Disney supposedly pushing some sort of anti-Israel agenda was not one of them.

Zionists are excellent at not taking responsibility. She’s a wooden actor that makes bad films.

[-] SoftestSapphic@lemmy.world 2 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

Disney making live action remakes (cheaper than animation) so they don't lose ownership of the IP is the worst reason a human being has ever made a movie for.

Anything produced for that goal will be shit

[-] NaibofTabr@infosec.pub 2 points 5 months ago

Counterpoint: I've read that this is the primary reason that Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse was produced - so that Sony could keep control over the Spider-man IP - and that was a fantastic movie.

[-] dustyData@lemmy.world 2 points 5 months ago

Sure, but Sony actually gave artists free reign to have fun and take risks with it. With the explicit intention of rejuvenating the IP. Unlike Disney which demand total risk aversion, formulaic and nostalgia based production, and no new creative thought whatsoever.

[-] IWW4@lemmy.zip 2 points 5 months ago

Snow White failed because it was as just a bad idea…

[-] themeatbridge@lemmy.world 3 points 5 months ago

I watched the movie. The CGI dwarfs didn't bother me as much as I expected, but everything else was executed very poorly. Gadot was fucking terrible in the movie, and the "modernization" efforts just left the story garbled. It was a bad movie, and even my kids thought so.

[-] MedicPigBabySaver@lemmy.world 2 points 5 months ago

Gal is a stupid cunt. No one should care.

[-] Concave1142@lemmy.world 1 points 5 months ago

I had no idea they even made a new Snow White. Guess I've been doing a good job at ignoring ads.

[-] twinnie@feddit.uk 1 points 5 months ago

The film was mediocre, but all the live action remakes have been.

[-] mrdown@lemmy.world 1 points 5 months ago

Projections like always, it's her side who pressure antioccupation, threaten them and call them antisemitic
