Anthony Stallard pleaded guilty at Portsmouth magistrates court to using threatening or abusive words or behaviour likely to cause distress.

The court heard that the 24-year-old had been out drinking with friends when they went to Kingston cemetery in Portsmouth, where they started to play football.

A Hampshire police spokesman said that witnesses complained to police about Stallard's rowdy behaviour and his pretending to be a ghost.

"The witnesses reported the group engaging in rowdy behaviour and one of them throwing their arms in the air and saying 'woooooo'," he said.

Sounds like it was more about being a public nuisance. It's a cemetery, have some respect for those who are there grieving.

While I don't entirely disagree, I also really hate Karens who can't just blow stupid shit like this off, and instead use it to purposely draw attention for themselves by making federal cases out of someone making a momentarily poor choice by screwing around in a manner that ultimately does little to no harm.

Eh, he got fined like 55 quid and 20 more in costs. Not exactly life changing, pretty in line with the offense.

Being American, I've no idea if that causes him problems the rest of his life for "having a record" as is routinely the case over this side of the pond.

Every conviction is recorded but most get removed from basic public records after around 2 years. Serious crimes may never get removed or may take longer to be removed.

If you apply for a job working with children or some other vulnerable group then the employer can usually see the removed convictions as well, as they may be relevant even if removed from the basic records.

So far as I know (which admittedly probably isn't the most reliable when it comes to legal matters), everything stays on your record unless you manage to convince a judge to expunge it. Misdemeanors just aren't taken all that seriously by most, but there are some companies or situations that do care about them. Even the ones that don't take it that seriously might use it as a deciding factor when compared to someone who doesn't have such (or has fewer/less severe) issues on their record.

Depends on if it was a criminal offence. A lot of fines could just be for civil offences which don't really give you a record

I want to be buried in a cemetery that pulls double duty as a venue for farmers markets, local festivals, concerts, etc. The headstones should be benches, picnic tables, playground equipment, etc.

Like, that's fine if that's your wish. I wouldn't have a problem with it myself (though I'm more likely to just get my ashes scattered). But that requires consent, which isn't the case here.

We should legalize piracy on the high seas - but only if the pirates stick entirely to sailing vessels, weapons, and attire appropriate to the 17th century golden age of piracy. You can raid commercial shipping if you want, but you have to do it in a tiny wooden sailing boat, armed only with a swords and flintlock muskets. Also no radios or modern technology of any kind.

Hitting politicians with pies (assuming no actual bodily harm occurs). Inserting an "i" into "to let" signs. Placing garden gnomes in people's gardens. Setting off speed cameras on a unicycle.
