Is the thread still open?

Yea, that's my question

[-] CaptSatelliteJack@lemy.lol 2 points 1 day ago

Fair question, given the lifetime. Yes, thread is still open, as I have yet to forget about it (somehow).

[-] Today@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago

How's the weather there? Does it make your 45 minute wait better or worse?

[-] CaptSatelliteJack@lemy.lol 11 points 1 day ago

I'm in Pierce County, Washington. Summer is winding down, thank fuck. Lolll I hate heat, so by the time I'm on my commute, it's cooling down just enough to not be totally miserably.

[-] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago

Are you excited for the Seattle Link light rail train to get to Federal Way in the next year or so?

[-] CaptSatelliteJack@lemy.lol 1 points 1 day ago

For my personal purposes, I'm too far south to really benefit from it, but I'm always excited to see public transit expanding.

[-] Today@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Congrats on being unmiserable! I agree with you on heat! I'm in Texas, where below 90 is considered pleasant. My son is a mechanic so he works with only partial climate control. The other day he texted me, "It's 83°. I could cry."

Washingtonian

Rides the bus

Checks out.

(no shade, grew up there and wish other places had a bus system nearly as good)

[-] squirrel@discuss.tchncs.de 8 points 1 day ago

Are you still at the bus stop?

[-] CaptSatelliteJack@lemy.lol 9 points 1 day ago

Fortunately no. Idk why I didn't see this comment until just now, I've been checking this thread pretty regularly. Made it home, ate tots, played some games, good times.

[-] MajorMajormajormajor@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 day ago

No, I'm the bus driver and picked them up a while ago.

[-] CaptSatelliteJack@lemy.lol 7 points 1 day ago

Thanks for the ride! Your shades were dope.

[-] asudox@lemmy.asudox.dev 5 points 1 day ago

How much does a one way ticket cost there?

[-] CaptSatelliteJack@lemy.lol 2 points 1 day ago

One trip on one bus is $2US. You can get a day pass for $5. For my particular situation, I buy monthly passes for $60.

[-] NeedyPlatter@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 23 hours ago)

How much do you pay for your bus fare? Where I am in Canada I pay $3.20 CAD or $2.31 USD.

[-] CaptSatelliteJack@lemy.lol 6 points 1 day ago

I have a digital bus pass that's $60US for 30 days. Only good in my county, but unlimited rides therein, so not bad. Considering a single trip on a single bus is $2, and a day pass is $5, it pays for itself stupidly fast.

[-] 200ok@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago

How many other people are at the bus stop?

[-] CaptSatelliteJack@lemy.lol 12 points 2 days ago

Just me. Interesting question tho, as it is rush hour in a residential area, so you would think there'd be more.

[-] Mutat0@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

Good thread. Would keep reading if there was more.

You say you played TF2. What do you play now?

[-] CaptSatelliteJack@lemy.lol 2 points 1 day ago

A "friend" has recently stuck the heroine needle back in my arm, so it's Destiny 2. I've also been in some weirdo games, especially Kill the Brickman, HOLE, and Rogue Light Deck Builder (yes that really is the name). I tend to jump around a lot. Any recs?

[-] Mutat0@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

I can't pull myself away from Elden Ring and the sequel Nightreign. Which now that I think about it, is kind of roguelikey. 😯 Damn!

[-] hoshikarakitaridia@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Rogue light deck builder

I play lots of backpack battlers and it's kind of peak backpack management. Maybe that could be interesting if you like weird indie games.

[-] osaerisxero@kbin.melroy.org 2 points 1 day ago

Backpack Battles is peak

[-] 200ok@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

Has anything weird (or at least memorable) ever happened to you during your commute?

[-] CaptSatelliteJack@lemy.lol 5 points 2 days ago

Not really? This route is pretty local, so not a lot of the crazy from the main lines make it. Depending on your disposition that can either be good or bad, I guess. That being said, the stop is right next to a fresh fruit cart, and I keep forgetting to bring cash.

[-] tamal3@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

Are you listening to music, if so what?

Also, how long is your commute, and will you need to transfer to another bus?

[-] CaptSatelliteJack@lemy.lol 3 points 2 days ago

Currently listening to Oni (Slayer Remix). Original song by Champaign Drip, who I love, and this mix puts a really excellent spin on it. I'm a bit of a basshead, and this song gets really grimy about it.

My commute at this time is really obnoxiously long, actually. It's a two bus trip, but it happens right when the busses switch from one every half hour to every hour. This stop is my connection, and by the time I get here I have to wait about 45 minutes for the next one. The really annoying thing is that it's 5-10 minutes faster than walking.

[-] Fenrisulfir@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 day ago

Dude if it’s not cold or you don’t have to carry heavy shit or maybe through sketchy areas, the walk is totally worth saving the money.

Also use the money to buy fruit

[-] CaptSatelliteJack@lemy.lol 3 points 1 day ago

I'm gonna ask you nicely to stay out of my head in future interactions. 🥲 I absolutely should be taking the walk, but I'm a fat lazy piece of shit that doesn't want to put in the effort. Maybe one day I'll listen to the better voices in my head.

[-] 200ok@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

What do you (normally) do to pass the time on the bus?

[-] CaptSatelliteJack@lemy.lol 4 points 2 days ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Honestly, just space out the window. There's always something to see if you're paying attention. I usually have music going, but try to keep my phone away from my face if I can help it.

[-] 200ok@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

That actually sounds really nice

[-] 200ok@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

How did you choose your username?

[-] CaptSatelliteJack@lemy.lol 8 points 2 days ago

Story time! When I was a kid (like, less than 10yo) I thought Lieutenant was a cool rank. Couldn't tell you why, just did. When I started gaming I needed a name. I always loved space, so it basically went "Satellite... uh... Jack, I guess. Oh, Lt!" So I started out as LtSatelliteJack.

Time went on, I made friends, mostly in TF2, and we would play a gamemode called dodgeball. One map in particular was a big canyon with a river at the bottom with two little boats. At one point I jumped off the canyon just to see if I could land on the boat. Turns out you could, so one of my friends jumped down to join me. They looked down at the little canoe we were standing on, looked up at me, and said, "Congratulations on your promotion to Captain." They immediately took a rocket to the top of their head and exploded, so in honor, I changed my name to CaptSatelliteJack. The rest is history.

[-] 200ok@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

I love this so much

[-] snooggums@piefed.world 3 points 2 days ago

What is your favorite dinosaur?

[-] CaptSatelliteJack@lemy.lol 7 points 2 days ago

Probs Triceratops. I love characters with shields, and having a shield on your head at all times, with spikes no less, is rad
