r/place is only available on our mobile apps (iOS and Android) and new Reddit. The new r/place features we are introducing this year are only on our mobile apps and moderators can opt out of these if they want to.

This seems kind of desperate.

Especially considering, as far as I can tell there seems to not be any new features.

In fact, they're limiting colour options now and the canvas is smaller.

In fact, they’re limiting colour options now and the canvas is smaller.

You only need black and white in a small space to spell out "fuck spez".

not sure if it did this last year but when i opened the canvas it started causing firefox to eat up a ton of ram, this is how it was after leaving the canvas open for 15 minutes

What else would you expect from the company that has its app’s video player load every single available resolution simultaneously?

[-] 1luv8008135@lemmy.world 16 points 1 year ago

Hahaha what?! Fuckin oath. That sounds like such a noob design….

[-] 4am@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Yeah, fuck NextCloud!

Oh you meant Reddit lol

Last year the canvas got bigger and there were more color options over time.

Mods can now designate a spot.

[-] Rassilon@kbin.social 7 points 1 year ago

App analytics go brrrr

[-] reedthompson@reddthat.com 32 points 1 year ago

Aw, I hate to admit it but I feel sad to be missing place. I liked it

[-] Madison_rogue@kbin.social 39 points 1 year ago

I said yesterday in another thread that this was going to be a shit show because of Huffman...I loved last year's r/space. I can say I miss it, but I gave up that community for what I believe to be a better one. They can have it, we can build better communities in Fediverse

[-] missingno@kbin.social 33 points 1 year ago

Place was good once, but you're not missing anything now. Trying to recapture that magic just feels like Reddit is out of ideas and just desperately trying to remind people of the one good thing they ever did. It's like Al Bundy still hyping up his high school football career because the rest of his life has been downhill since then.

Reminds me of YouTube rewind.

[-] adespoton@lemmy.ca 18 points 1 year ago

We should make a Lemmy Tundra

[-] PrinceWith999Enemies@lemmy.world 14 points 1 year ago

Lemmy Tundra

Good call! That way we can draw either blue or white mana for anti-reddit counterspells and protection. Control decks were always my favorite.

[-] mesamunefire@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

There's sites that do it. Heck we could probably do it just by spamming a link.

[-] erogenouswarzone@lemmy.ml 32 points 1 year ago

"protesters"... I'm sure Spez is sadly walking to the bank to cash all of his checks from all the money he made on r/place from the "protesters."

this image is also from your link

[-] Pratai@lemmy.ca 29 points 1 year ago

It’s fucking pathetic that people still won’t let it go. Congrats on bringing traffic to the thing you hate so much.

[-] FaceDeer@kbin.social 21 points 1 year ago

Surprised Pikachu!

[-] flipht@kbin.social 19 points 1 year ago

Grotesque? Maybe I missed seeing something else, but "Fuck Spez," isnt grotesque.

Nor can you really call using the canvas as intended "graffiti."

[-] A_A@lemmy.world 12 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

the following image is from your link and I believe not from this year.

[-] Navarian@lemm.ee 14 points 1 year ago

Aye they show that, and also the current one both in the article.

[-] A_A@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

oups, I know, so made one more comment
( the Right image in other comment )

[-] President_Pyrus@feddit.dk 4 points 1 year ago

That was the first place IIRC. I am fairly sure we in the nordic countries made the viking ship on top of the Union Jack in the first place.

[-] greendakota99@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

They are still getting publicity and engagement so it’s working for them.
