The only right way to start is with TOS. And now get out of my grain silo, damn tribbles!

I have never watched a single star trek thing and the only knowledge I have about it comes from you guy's memes

I never was into it, always a Star Wars kid. My gf dad had episodes of TAS going one day and I got sucked into it to my surprise, i didnt think I’d appreciate a show that I always saw as old and kinda cheesy. I watched a few more episodes and really liked it. He did me a big favour, told me even if I wasn’t going to watch it all at once, he said watch space seed the episode, then go watch the first two movies. What an epic, you get a great introduction to Star Trek and one of its greatest villains Khan.

After that I tired TNG but didnt like it, don’t like most Star Trek, I always go back to the original. I did watch discovery with my wife and it was ok, but strange new worlds is my second favourite now.

The only way it's going to make sense is if you watch it in chronological order. So you have to start with Enterprise.

[-] Zink@programming.dev 1 points 2 months ago

That sounds like a long road

getting from there to here.

[-] Naz@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 months ago

Arguably starting with TNG's Encounter at Farpoint is a good place

[-] HatchetHaro@pawb.social 1 points 2 months ago

no, the correct answer is star trek online, klingon empire gorn science captain.

The only Star Trek media I’ve consumed are the new movies. Burn me at the stake trekkies.

i am a very late bloomer to ST. i watches TOS and loved it; i startrd up TNG about a month ago.

im in season 3 episode 4 and councillor troy hasnt died yet. i hate her with a fiery passion for ruining what seems to be a really good show. my friends have confirmed she doesnt die and told me to leave TNG behind and move on to DS9.

i guess i get DS9 tomorrow.

It’s such a weird choice to put “ships councilor” on the bridge.

i can imagine the unimportant meetings that werent part of the show... you know like routine runs.

"i am captain jean luc picard of the USS Enterprise. to my right is my number one, commander riker. to my front left is my number two, lieutenant commander data... as opposed to this random lady sitting next to me who has nothing to do with leadership on the bridge."

[everyone glares at troy]

It's very obviously TNG. But after season 2.

[-] Damage@feddit.it 0 points 2 months ago

Nah, start from the beginning. When I introduced my partner to star trek, she loved the first TNG seasons, despite recognizing that the latter are better

[-] Honytawk@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 months ago

The first episode also introduces every character.

It would be a miss for new watchers to skip it, even if some of you don't like the episode.

The dish separation was what made me understand there was a lot more to Star Trek then I first thought and made me continue watching, even if it didn't happen again.

[-] irish_link@lemmy.world -1 points 2 months ago

This is incorrect.

If you are new at this point “Lower decks” is the right place to start.

After that you can go to any series, even if TNG is the right next step. You can pick anything.

[-] evidences@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

I think either Strange New Worlds or Lower Decks is a good starting point for someone new to Trek. I think I'd recommend SNW over Lower Decks though just because the number of references in Lower Decks to other Star Trek media is pretty high.

[-] Albbi@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 months ago

Lower decks has soooo many references to the other series I feel like it would be a very confusing place to start.

[-] Honytawk@lemmy.zip -1 points 2 months ago

What?

You just start at the beginning of one of the series.

If you like new stuff: Strange New Worlds

If you like animation: Lower Decks

If you enjoy older series: The Next Generation (+Deep Space9 + Voyager)

If you enjoy really old series: The Original Series

[-] mic_check_one_two@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Yeah, I started with TNG a year or two ago. I’m now halfway through season 4 of Voyager, just from watching an episode every few days whenever I have time. Eventually I’ll move on to DS9, before digging into the movies (which I have simultaneously heard are incredible and hot garbage, depending on the individual user’s preferences) and the newer stuff.

[-] Kirk@startrek.website 1 points 2 months ago

What?

You just start at Star Trek The Animated Series

If you like new stuff: Star Trek The Animated Series

If you like animation: Star Trek The Animated Series

If you enjoy older series: Star Trek The Animated Series

If you enjoy really old series: Star Trek The Animated Series

[-] oftheair@lemmy.blahaj.zone -1 points 2 months ago

The most wrong is Star Trek: Straight New Worlds.

[-] Windex007@lemmy.world -1 points 2 months ago

If you're going to do a "courtroom" TNG episode, no way it's Devils Due... The Drumhead all day long.

[-] glorkon@lemmy.world -1 points 2 months ago

The Star Trek universe is based on the premise that a peaceful, united mankind is acting as a benevolent, civilized partner and friend of all alien species.

But let's be honest, we all know we would behave like the aliens from Independence Day - mercilessly conquering and harvesting alien worlds and spreading destruction across the universe.
