Like the digusting and culturally pointless little pig I am, I watch shit like this. I could give an explanation for why or justify it as some ethnographic study of early 21st century MilBro lit. but, really, i just like action sequences mixed with intrigue.

anyway, we all know this is some bottom of the barrel bullshit going in. i watched the first ep KNOWING it was going to be a turd. and it was somehow beneath my expectations.

forget the fantastical geopolitical world the production team paints as the context for their 100% unrealistic heroes to inhabit as they gruffly, but knowingly chide and affirm each other in their cargo pants, henleys, and unmarked ball caps. just the basic writing for dialogue is fucking torture, and not even the stupid politics or the exposition.

like, if you took a shot every time somebody calls somebody else "brother" you would be dead in 10 minutes. it feels completely shoehorned. like an exec fed the scrip into an LLM and prompted it to "say brother 20x more".

so the story is nonsense, the dialogue is torture, the action sequences are somehow not interesting despite gunfire and explosions. legit all it has are some appealing establishing shots in visually interesting locales. literally, there are acreensavers i would rather watch than this, and they probably cost like 0.05% to produce.

anyway, it sucks, lmao.

I watched the first ep. Because I think Tayloy Kitach is alright in a Keanu kind of way, and honestly he was as good or bad as I expected. But my god the show, the writing and all the brother shit sucks so bad. As soon as Chris’s Pratt shows up with his brother talk I was confident I would likely not continue.

Also it’s completely unrealistic—they show the seals NOT doing drugs and being worried about civilian casualties instead of doing night raids high on amphetamine and killing every human at or near whatever physical location they’re hitting. Totally cartoon and unrealistic, but they get points for including an elder hemsworth as a CIA ground branch guy, you know it’s operator time if that guy is in the cast.

yeah, i like Taylor Kitsch too. he was great in True Detective S2. i think that's one of the things that made me open to giving it a shot.

for my own context, i watched the original season thinking it was going to be this like unreliable narrator/family annihilator story about chris pratt's character getting a TBI overseas and losing his shit because the story was so surreal.

i think i was halfway through when i realized it was all straight up, and there wasn't going to be any "turn" to the story like how i thought. i still think that sort of story would make for COMPELLING tv, but i guess this shit is what the factory is selling today.

to be fair, i am running out the clock on a prime subscription, so i only rarely open it up and look at what's being promo'd.

Yea your version would be way more interesting. I mostly skip Prime because of the fun ads they’ve added but still dip back in once in a while.

Whole thing was amusing because my wife was down to keep watching but I was just like ehhh I can’t stand this.

I do think kitsch did a decent job given how horrible the show is, but it’s not enough to get me to watch more.

Bit of an acquired taste, but he was good in American Primeval on Netflix, of the revenant/western thing isn’t a deal Breaker. Also has Betty Gilpin who is usually pretty reliably good/interesting.

OMFG I have been driving my poor wife insane with this show, because I will randomly blurt out DARK WOLF for no reason.

I love Tylor Kitsch so I too watched a few episodes of this show and I just could not go on. I think I made it to third episode, where they set up shop at some house with the guy from the Wire and the sleezy agency guy who screamed at Dark Wolf (kitsch) in Afghanistan.

One thing that is really killing me is the SEAL LT who has the thick British Accent. Why is ~~Luther from the Umbrella Academy~~ a British guy a US Navy officer?

Yeah I know, dont ask any questions because the show is just so fucking terrible.

I could not watch anymore past E3.

like, if you took a shot every time somebody calls somebody else "brother" you would be dead in 10 minutes.

BWAAHAHAH my wife said the same exact thing.

yeah, that english dude, the "brother" thing, it's all just too absurd.

i feel like, "Forget it, BROTHER. It's DARK WOLF." should become a catch phrase in your household and used to signify anything.

I wish Chris Pratt would go away.

Most of the new prime originals are schlock like this, imo. I mean, Jack Ryan was fucking unwatchable, and I will watch some shitty spy thrillers.

I think there's some shittification going on with Prime because they realized you can stick a star into a badly written, mid-budget show with a few action sequences and the rubes will watch.

Since The Boys, has there been an honestly good Prime original?

[-] came_apart_at_Kmart@hexbear.net 1 points 1 week ago

totally. i think there's a captive audience effect going on, because if you have the service and pay for it, might as well watch the shit because you've already paid.

like if a nearby theater or rental place offered you unlimited watches for a subscription, you're gonna watch tons of junk.

this is especially true in amazons case where even the FTC has said they made canceling prime too difficult and lied to people up front so they're getting a 1.5 BILLION dollar fine.

it is weird though how they drop big bucks on exotic locales and movie stars, but are apparently having a $12 LLM generate the worst scripts ever farted out.
