So like the government owning private companies? That kind of anti-capitalism. Hope they nail the guy behind that to the wall!!!

[-] lemmy_outta_here@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Yeah! Isn’t deporting your workforce kind of anti-capitalist as well?

[-] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

I was not aware that capitalism was something codified in the Constitution.

[-] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 3 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Well, it actually kind of is, defining capitalism as the right to personally own the means of production.

Fifth Amendment, private property may not be seized for public use without just compensation. There are others that speak to it as well but that's the most commonly pointed to "Constitutional guarantee of capitalism"

You could argue that that merely protects the monetary value of individual capitalists though, so for a collectivization program you'd just pay out cash for shares as you nationalize (or whatever) the industry.

Also every state that allows civil asset forfeiture is in a criminal conspiracy against your constitutional rights but for some reason conservatives don't actually care that much.

You know, I think the admin trying to make thought crime a thing actually deserves attention.

[-] missingno@fedia.io 1 points 2 months ago

TBH, it's starting to feel like bringing up Epstein in response to every single headline is itself becoming a distraction.

Mate, you're getting distracted from the erosion of democracy by only thinking about some fucking papers that we all know implicate him already.

[-] Peruvian_Skies@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Mate, the release of the unredacted Epstein files is pretty much the only thing left with a nonzero chance of turning MAGA against Trump. They don't care about the erosion of democracy, the illegal arrest and deportation of innocents, the economy, the USA becoming an international laughing stock, inflation, the cuts to government services, the wars, they don't even care that he was convicted of raping adults! Uncontrovertible evidence that he likes to put his deformed micropenis inside children is the only thing that might still reach them.

[-] carotte@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 2 months ago

why do you guys always bring up this image when the US is doing shit like this or blatantly attacking minorities, but never when it’s about trump’s fucking ballroom or whatever

[-] danekrae@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

That will be one of the reasons used to arrest political opponents.

"You voted for something that benefits workers; straight to jail."

[-] cactuspunter@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 months ago

Welp see you in a Florida camp fellas

[-] WanderWisley@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

I’m classifying Trump as a “post/pre/rapist” because he has rapped children and will probably do it again.

[-] Formfiller@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Wtf is a pre crime?

[-] LillyPip@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 months ago

So we’re gonna start actively prosecuting thought crime now. Cool cool.

[-] ozymandias@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 months ago

fun fact: america never declared itself as capitalist, it was when the power of private companies exceeded the power of the government.
capitalism was a way of defining what happened when they took over….

[-] blave@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

That’s a funny word for a “corruption”

Welcome to the USA! We already had the world's largest rates of obesity, depression and mass shootings, but now we also have a pedophile President, and - finally, amirite? - THOUGHTCRIME!

[-] tidderuuf@lemmy.world -2 points 2 months ago

Being profascism is also anticapitalist... Sooooooooo....

[-] doben@lemmy.wtf 4 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Holy disinformation, dude, wtf!

Being pro-fascism is also anticapitalist

The opposite is true: fascist regimes worked hand-in-hand with big business. Many companies thrived under fascism, like IBM making the Holocaust more efficient, Mercedes-Benz used over 30,000 forced laborers in their factories, and major corporations like Ford, GM, and IG Farben made massive profits from Nazi war production. Rather than destroying capitalism, fascist "corporatism" actually destroyed labor unions while preserving private property and business profits. Fascist economic programs "favored the wealthy far more than the middle class and working class" — their anti-capitalist rhetoric was just propaganda to win support, not actual policy. The reality is that fascism represents capitalism's authoritarian mode during crisis, not its replacement.

And that’s not even the kind of critical analysis a socialist would put forward.

[-] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Indeed. I'd suggest IBM and the Holocaust for further reading...IIRC, other companies get a mention as well, such as Ford and GM.

There are a few books on IG Farben's crimes, and I used to have one on my to-read list, but I cannot find it at the moment.

[-] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Fascism and capitalism work hand in glove. Capitalism is a key aspect of fascism.

How have 30+ people upvoted this? Are people that misinformed?

[-] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 0 points 2 months ago

Americans.

Also Lemmy just straight up operates on vibes most of the time.

[-] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 2 months ago

As an American....

Yeah, probably.
