Alan Dershowitz said in July he would blow his brains out on live television if NYC elected Mamdani.

[-] ClownStatue@piefed.social 5 points 3 weeks ago

Someone should interview him with a loaded gun on the table between them. The interviewer should make no verbal mention of the gun and only quickly glance at it after saying anything.

[-] Lightfire228@pawb.social 1 points 3 weeks ago

That sounds like a good way to get shot as a reporter

[-] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 weeks ago

Some journalism involves risks

[-] IndustryStandard@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

Put a blank in it for comedic effect.

[-] ClownStatue@piefed.social 1 points 3 weeks ago

Dershowitz is such a gangsta!

TBH I would rather see him hauled in front of a jury for his ties to Epstein. He should die in a cell after seeing his entire legacy and name be destroyed.

Study after study has been done on every election looking for people who publicly say they are moving if their party lost. They found consistently that the number of people who follow through are in the single digits.

Trump famously said he was going to leave the US when he lost to Biden. We all begged him to go but nope.

MAGAs have repeatedly said they are going to move to Russia or Argentina or other conservative places only to realize they wouldn't be in the ruling class.

[-] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 weeks ago

I did this myself, when Connecticut rejected a constitutional convention in 2008. I believe that representatives are generally for sale and a direct initiative is absolutely necessary. So I moved somewhere where I have more of a voice.

If CA didn't ask my permission to redistrict, I would've been mad about it. But the additional oversight makes a huge difference to me and I'm quite happy with today's result.

They're gonna move to Florida for a few months, then when they realize they hate it there they'll move to North Carolina to tell us all about how they did things up north.

[-] julysfire@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

Hopefully they buy houses so I can get out of this shithole

[-] SharkAttak@kbin.melroy.org 3 points 3 weeks ago

They're all probably dead, wasn't it a war zone wasteland?

[-] FistingEnthusiast@lemmynsfw.com 0 points 3 weeks ago

That would be an outcome I'd be happy to see

Do you need a safe space?

Do you think I'm going to feel a second of remorse for upsetting conservatives?

[-] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Pff.

Same people driving around NY all year with Florida, Georgia, and Carolinas license plates. They’re already tax dodgers and don’t have their permanent address as NY.

[-] Stern@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

They're leaving NYC like a lot of those folks who said they were leaving America if Trump won are moving to... I dunno... wherever they were planning to go.

[-] MrsDoyle@sh.itjust.works 4 points 3 weeks ago

Talking to a friend in NZ - he says there's been a big influx of Americans, welcomed by tech firms because at the same time a lot of skilled NZers are leaving for Australia. I'm told some of the wealthier tech bros, eg Peter Thiel, are building bunkers in NZ ready for the apocalypse.

[-] lapping6596@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

That's exactly where I'd love to move if I can't stay in the US. Got the tech profession and everything...

[-] zr0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 weeks ago

Maybe you should do a reverse-Kirk. Find all those who wanted to leave and expose them publicly, document them if they have actually left the city or not.

[-] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

Maybe you should do a reverse-Kirk.

Drink blood through a hole in your neck?

[-] dethedrus@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 3 weeks ago

Bravo, you magnificent bastard.

I thought a reverse Kirk would be someone slurping buckets of blood with their throat

[-] SomeAmateur@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 weeks ago

Some people said similar stuff before Trump was elected and while they didn't move there are a ton of people being deported

[-] rayyy@piefed.social 1 points 3 weeks ago

Conversely, many who voted for him are leaving the country by being deported. Bet they didn't see that coming, although any moron should have because that is what he campaigned on. They just got what they voted for. Hurray.

[-] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Conversely, many who voted for him are leaving the country by being deported.

The "haha, Trump supporters are self-deporting" always seems to put a veneer of schadenfreude over what is a monstrous crime against a population with virtually no democratic representation. The brunt of these ICE assaults are in liberal cities, targeting black and brown people, many of whom are being punished while in the process of following the law. Agents snatching people at court hearings or while filing visa or green card paperwork. Agents assaulting people at hospitals and schools. Agents snatching parents from their children in line at the airport. The overwhelming majority of these residents can't even vote.

One of the grossest aspects of modern liberalism is this naive need to believe Trump's policies are some kind of karmic justice. Nothing about this is just. Nothing about it is going to "self-correct". The nation is being raped and pillaged.

[-] SparroHawc@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 weeks ago

Oh, we know. Given a choice, we wouldn't have any of this.

But seeing these people suffer the consequences of their own actions and then have the gall to whine about it makes it hard to empathize with them specifically.

[-] AngularViscosity@piefed.social 1 points 3 weeks ago

Is this how I find out he won? OMFG, I'm ecstatic!

[-] ArbitraryValue@sh.itjust.works -1 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

I admit that I'm moving away for other reasons but I'm certainly more enthusiastic about moving now. (With that said, I'd be happy to leave Cuomo behind almost as much.) But I'm moving to the Bay Area so it's not much of an improvement in terms of politics. I miss New Hampshire.

[-] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Have you read the book “A Libertarian Walks Into A Bear”? It’s quite entertaining.

[-] ArbitraryValue@sh.itjust.works -1 points 3 weeks ago

I'm familiar with it (although I haven't read the whole thing) and I think it's not representative of what living in New Hampshire is actually like. I went to college there and then more recently I lived there for four years. Some stuff was weird even to me (my neighbor set up an improvised firing range behind his house, and driving without car insurance is legal) but overall the towns where I lived seemed well-governed and most people valued their independence but not to the extent that they would reject the rules necessary for an orderly society. What some weirdos did when they came to New Hampshire says more about weirdos than it does about New Hampshire or lowercase-L libertarianism (as opposed to the Libertarian party, which is marginal even in New Hampshire).

[-] theunknownmuncher@lemmy.world 0 points 3 weeks ago

Why not live in New Hampshire then?

[-] booly@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 weeks ago

Because it's #3 in the nation in per capita impact of opioid use disorder, after West Virginia and Ohio?

Fact is, these places that MAGA wants to label as hellholes are the cultural and economic engines of our country. Even places like Texas are driven entirely by their urban blue counties.
