Despite a last minute push from Donald Trump, GOP Rep. Lauren Boebert kept her name on a discharge petition that would demand the full release of investigative files around convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Boebert is one of four Republicans who signed the bipartisan discharge petition led by GOP Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky and Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna of California to force the Justice Department to release all the files.

Here's my take.

Anyone who has spent 30 seconds with Trump knows that he's not going to do anything of the next GOP Presidential candidate. Right now, setting yourself up as anti-Trump, pro-MAGA is a good move.

Boebert and MTG are both playing that game.

I don't think either of them are smart enough to intentionally play that strategy, but yes, I think these are people who got elected based on certain principles and they stick to what got them elected in the first place. If trump doesn't adhere to these prunciples, then they will gladly pick MAGA over him. And that does happen to be what is probably a good long-term strategy.

Like George W Bush said, don't misunderestimate them.

They don’t operate ina vacuum (no matter how much they suck. Ha!)

They have staffers and advisors and they probably talk to some other congresspeople.

It’s a different game once they’re in.

Stand firm, you crazy bitch.

Honestly it’s the smartest thing Trump could do. He knows his base won’t care. He can ask why the push wasn’t as strong under Biden. And it’ll hurt the Democrats who were involved more than it will hurt him.

Who does he think will affect him if there’s (more) concrete proof he’s a nonce? He already tried to overthrow the government and the people still voted for him and/or refused to vote against him.

Trump pushed her to NOT Sign the Petition to Proof his Innocence because he's INNOCENT! I'm a MAGA who does their OWN RESEARCH!

The most noble thing she will probably ever do... she can have this one.
