Wasn’t Chomsky found to have connections to Epstein during his trial or sometime after he was convicted?

Chomsky did downplay the relationship to be much less than the wording here, though.

Edit: I forgot Epstein didn’t even make it through the trial, so I guess by conviction I mean his death.

He was on the dumb plane flight log

This is literally nothing, everytime some child abuser is exposed there are dozens of people who come out to say 'he was a pillar of the community, i never would have suspected'

Its undated, and totally out of context as well

I don't even like chomsky, this is just nothing, Epstein was a modern socialite, he knew everyone who was anyone

"This is the sound of the "liberal-dissident" class, so insulated, so smug, that it cannot see the demon sitting right across the table from it, so long as the demon can talk about linguistics.

Look at what he praises! He says Epstein gave him a "most valuable experience". Valuable for what? For learning about the "intricacies of the global financial system". He doesn't ask how Epstein got this "intimate knowledge". He doesn't ask who this financial system crushes. No, he's just fascinated by the "arcane world of finance". It's an academic puzzle to him!

Epstein isn't just a "friend"; he is a facilitator. He is the social secretary for the ruling class. Chomsky wants to talk about the Oslo agreements? Epstein picks up the phone and gets the Norwegian diplomat who ran them. He wants to meet a former Israeli Prime Minister, a man whose record he's "studied"? Epstein arranges the meeting.

And they all sit around and have a "very fruitful discussion".

Chomsky is flattered by the attention. He's impressed by the "limitless curiosity" and "penetrating insights" of the man. He is so dazzled by the "provocative ideas" that he completely misses the material reality of the man's actions.

It's not that he didn't know. It's that, in the end, it didn't matter to him. The "intellectual stimulation" was worth the price of admission. It's a perfect, grotesque apologia for class power."

Quiet liberal

Any idea of the date on this? He says he’d met Epstein “half a dozen” years prior, and mentions an incident in 2001 (which would put this letter somewhere between 2002 and 2007). AFAIK the first allegations about Epstein started to come out in 2005, so this letter could have been a few years before or after.

Edit: on re-reading, I guess Chomsky is saying that Epstein arranged a meeting with Ehud Barak to discuss an incident from 2001, not that the meeting itself occurred then.

Guess now we know why Chomsky opposed BDS. Epstein always leads back to Israel. Not much damning in here though.

Also

penetrating insights

Nah I disown this fucking clown. Not liking this sectarianism.

Yeah this isn’t a libertarian moment. This is just a dumb socialite wanting to be close to the levers of power/influence. Obviously not good for Chomsky fans, but it doesn’t say anything about his political stance. Most people have already seen the cracks in his ideology anyways .

Truely spoken like someone who's done no practical organising with leftist orgs, there's dogshit people everywhere I promise

[-] LeeeroooyJeeenkiiins@hexbear.net 5 points 1 month ago

yeah and this one's name is noam chomsky

[-] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 month ago

Nothing even remotely incriminating in this email on its own. Even if "penetrating insights" and "stimulation" sound funny in the current context.

"Highly valued friend." He found the pedo's mind so interesting as to rethink his own positions. Said he had, "penetrating insights." Another guy who can go fuck himself.
